Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.

If a person’s heart is proud, they will be destroyed. So don’t be proud if you want to be honored.

Before destruction a man’s heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.

“ Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: Your heart is proud, and you have said,“ I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods in the heart of the sea.” Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heart as that of a god.

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

In the same way, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. All of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

Will you still say,“ I am a god,” in the presence of those who slay you? Yet you will be only a man, not a god, in the hands of those who kill you.

Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of the heavens. The vessels from his house were brought to you, and as you and your nobles, wives, and concubines drank wine from them, you praised the gods made of silver and gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or understand. But you have not glorified the God who holds your life-breath in his hand and who controls the whole course of your life.Therefore, he sent the hand, and this writing was inscribed.

At the beginning of your petitions an answer went out, and I have come to give it, for you are treasured by God. So consider the message and understand the vision:

While I was speaking, praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my petition before the LORD my God concerning the holy mountain of my God—

They sympathized with him and comforted him concerning all the adversity the LORD had brought on him. Each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold earring.So the LORD blessed the last part of Job’s life more than the first. He owned fourteen thousand sheep and goats, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys.He also had seven sons and three daughters.He named his first daughter Jemimah, his second Keziah, and his third Keren-happuch.No women as beautiful as Job’s daughters could be found in all the land, and their father granted them an inheritance with their brothers.Job lived 140 years after this and saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.Then Job died, old and full of days.

Then I said: Woe is me for I am ruined because I am a man of unclean lips and live among a people of unclean lips, and because my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Armies.Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken from the altar with tongs.He touched my mouth with it and said: Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is atoned for.Then I heard the voice of the Lord asking: Who will I send? Who will go for us? I said: Here I am. Send me.And he replied: Go! Say to these people: Keep listening, but do not understand; keep looking, but do not perceive.Make the minds of these people dull; deafen their ears and blind their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, understand with their minds, turn back, and be healed.Then I said,“ Until when, Lord?” And he replied: Until cities lie in ruins without inhabitants, houses are without people, the land is ruined and desolate,and the LORD drives the people far away, leaving great emptiness in the land.Though a tenth will remain in the land, it will be burned again. Like the terebinth or the oak that leaves a stump when felled, the holy seed is the stump.
