Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.

Suppose you are lowly in spirit along with those who are treated badly. That’s better than sharing stolen goods with those who are proud.

It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Better to live humbly with the poor than to share plunder with the proud.

For the High and Exalted One who lives forever, whose name is Holy says this:“ I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the oppressed.

“ The poor in spirit are blessed, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

The enemy said:“ I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil. My desire will be gratified at their expense. I will draw my sword; my hand will destroy them.”

For he said: I have done this by my own strength and wisdom, for I am clever. I abolished the borders of nations and plundered their treasures; like a mighty warrior, I subjugated the inhabitants.My hand has reached out, as if into a nest, to seize the wealth of the nations. Like one gathering abandoned eggs, I gathered the whole earth. No wing fluttered; no beak opened or chirped.Does an ax exalt itself above the one who chops with it? Does a saw magnify itself above the one who saws with it? It would be like a staff waving the one who lifts it! It would be like a rod lifting a man who isn’t wood!

The Lord is near the brokenhearted; He saves those crushed in spirit.

He has done a mighty deed with His arm; He has scattered the proud because of the thoughts of their hearts;He has toppled the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly.He has satisfied the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty.

A person’s pride will humble him, but a humble spirit will gain honor.

I will send him against a godless nation; I will command him to go against a people destined for My rage, to take spoils, to plunder, and to trample them down like clay in the streets.

Therefore I will give Him the many as a portion, and He will receive the mighty as spoil, because He submitted Himself to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet He bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels.

You have enlarged the nation and increased its joy. The people have rejoiced before You as they rejoice at harvest time and as they rejoice when dividing spoils.

Though the Lord is exalted, He takes note of the humble; but He knows the haughty from a distance.

“ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even raise his eyes to heaven but kept striking his chest and saying,‘ God, turn Your wrath from me— a sinner!’I tell you, this one went down to his house justified rather than the other; because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
