Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.

Those who turn away from correction hate themselves. But anyone who accepts correction gains understanding.

Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.

If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.

They despised all my reproof.Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”

But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.

“ Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on a rock.The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it didn’t fall, for it was founded on the rock.Everyone who hears these words of mine, and doesn’t do them will be like a foolish man, who built his house on the sand.The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell— and great was its fall.”

As many as I love, I reprove and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent.

The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy.

Folly is joy to one who is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding keeps his way straight.

The heart of one who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.

They shall tell the elders of his city,“ This our son is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey our voice. He is a glutton and a drunkard.”

You will groan at your latter end, when your flesh and your body are consumed,and say,“ How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor turned my ear to those who instructed me!

The heart of the discerning gets knowledge. The ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and though they chasten him, will not listen to them,

“‘“ In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you and you weren’t cleansed, you won’t be cleansed from your filthiness any more, until I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.I, Yahweh, have spoken it. It will happen, and I will do it. I won’t go back. I won’t spare. I won’t repent. According to your ways, and according to your doings, they will judge you,” says the Lord Yahweh.’”

Hear instruction, and be wise. Don’t refuse it.Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my door posts.For whoever finds me, finds life, and will obtain favor from Yahweh.But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul. All those who hate me love death.”

Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding?

since you hate instruction, and throw my words behind you?

Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

O Yahweh, don’t your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.

looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it,
