If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

“ Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.“ But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

Folly is joy to him who is destitute of discernment, But a man of understanding walks uprightly.

The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.

And they shall say to the elders of his city,‘ This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’

And you mourn at last, When your flesh and your body are consumed,And say:“ How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised correction!I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me!

The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

“ If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, will not heed them,

In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you, and you were not cleansed, You will not be cleansed of your filthiness anymore, Till I have caused My fury to rest upon you.I, the Lord, have spoken it; It shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not hold back, Nor will I spare, Nor will I relent; According to your ways And according to your deeds They will judge you,” Says the Lord God.’”

Hear instruction and be wise, And do not disdain it.Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors.For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord;But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who hate me love death.”

Why is there in the hand of a fool the purchase price of wisdom, Since he has no heart for it?

Seeing you hate instruction And cast My words behind you?

Why should you be stricken again? You will revolt more and more. The whole head is sick, And the whole heart faints.

O Lord, are not Your eyes on the truth? You have stricken them, But they have not grieved; You have consumed them, But they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to return.

looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;
