Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.

Those who turn away from correction hate themselves. But anyone who accepts correction gains understanding.

Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.

If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.

But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand,since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke,I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you—when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.“ Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me,since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord.Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke,they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

“ Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Whoever remains stiff- necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed— without remedy.

Folly brings joy to one who has no sense, but whoever has understanding keeps a straight course.

The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.

They shall say to the elders,“ This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.”

At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent.You will say,“ How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction!I would not obey my teachers or turn my ear to my instructors.

The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.

If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him,

“‘ Now your impurity is lewdness. Because I tried to cleanse you but you would not be cleansed from your impurity, you will not be clean again until my wrath against you has subsided.“‘ I the Lord have spoken. The time has come for me to act. I will not hold back; I will not have pity, nor will I relent. You will be judged according to your conduct and your actions, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it.Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord.But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death.”

Why should fools have money in hand to buy wisdom, when they are not able to understand it?

You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.

Why should you be beaten anymore? Why do you persist in rebellion? Your whole head is injured, your whole heart afflicted.

Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent.

See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
