But make sure that in your hearts you honor Christ as Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect.

The tongues of wise people use knowledge well. But the mouths of foolish people pour out foolish words.

Sin is not ended by using many words. But those who are wise control their tongues.

The tongue is also a fire. The tongue is the most evil part of the body. It makes the whole body impure. It sets a person’s whole way of life on fire. And the tongue itself is set on fire by hell.People have tamed all kinds of wild animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures. And they still tame them.But no one can tame the tongue. It is an evil thing that never rests. It is full of deadly poison.

Don’t let your mouth cause you to sin. Don’t say to the temple messenger,“ My promise was a mistake.” Why should God be angry with what you say? Why should he destroy what you have done?

Have you seen someone who speaks without thinking? There is more hope for foolish people than for that person.

Wise people act with knowledge. But foolish people show how foolish they are.

Foolish people let their anger run wild. But wise people keep themselves under control.

Don’t be too quick to speak. Don’t be in a hurry to say anything to God. God is in heaven. You are on earth. So use only a few words when you speak.

They speak empty, bragging words. They make their appeal to the evil desires that come from sin’s power. They tempt new believers who are just escaping from the company of sinful people.

Wise people say gracious things. But foolish people are destroyed by what their own lips speak.At first what they say is foolish. In the end their words are very evil.They talk too much. No one knows what lies ahead. Who can tell someone else what will happen after they are gone?

Many people refuse to obey God. All they do is talk about things that mean nothing. They try to fool others. No one does these things more than the circumcision group.They must be stopped. They are making trouble for entire families. They do this by teaching things they shouldn’t. They do these things to cheat people.

The hearts of wise people guide their mouths. Their words make people want to learn more.

You nest of poisonous snakes! How can you who are evil say anything good? Your mouths say everything that is in your hearts.

The king said,“ One of you says,‘ My son is alive. Your son is dead.’ The other one says,‘ No! Your son is dead. Mine is alive.’ ”He continued,“ Bring me a sword.” So a sword was brought to him.Then he gave an order. He said,“ Cut the living child in two. Give half to one woman and half to the other.”The woman whose son was alive was filled with deep love for her son. She said to the king,“ My master, please give her the living baby! Don’t kill him!” But the other woman said,“ Neither one of us will have him. Cut him in two!”Then the king made his decision. He said,“ Give the living baby to the first woman. Don’t kill him. She’s his mother.”All the Israelites heard about the decision the king had given. That gave them great respect for him. They saw that God had given him wisdom. They knew that Solomon would do what was right and fair when he judged people.
