The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever is kind to the needy is blessed.

藐视邻舍的，这人有罪；怜悯贫穷的，这人有福。

藐视邻舍是罪过，怜悯穷人蒙福乐。

藐视邻舍的，是为有罪；恩待贫穷人的，是为有福。

藐视自己邻人的，是有罪的；恩待卑微人的，是蒙福的！

藐視鄰舍的，這人有罪；憐憫貧窮的，這人有福。

It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor, but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.

It is a sin to hate your neighbor. But blessed is the person who is kind to those in need.

Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor.

It is a sin to belittle one’s neighbor; blessed are those who help the poor.

The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever shows kindness to the poor will be happy.

One who despises his neighbor sins, But one who is gracious to the poor is blessed.

He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth; But he that hath pity on the poor, happy is he.

The one who mocks the poor insults his Creator; whoever rejoices over disaster will not go unpunished.

The one who gives to the poor will not lack, but whoever shuts his eyes to them will receive many curses.

The one who is gracious to the poor lends to the LORD, and the LORD will repay him for his good deed.

The one who denounces his neighbor lacks wisdom, but the one who has discernment keeps silent.

The one who oppresses the poor insults his Creator, but whoever shows favor to the needy honors him.

For he did not despise or detest the suffering of the oppressed; he did not ignore him; when he cried out to him, he responded.

“ If I have disregarded the right of my male servants or my female servants when they disputed with me,then what will I do when God confronts me in judgment; when he intervenes, how will I respond to him?Did not the one who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us in the womb?

One person is generous and yet grows more wealthy, but another withholds more than he should and comes to poverty.A generous person will be enriched, and the one who provides water for others will himself be satisfied.

Gaze at the heavens and see; consider the clouds, which are higher than you!If you sin, how does it affect God? If your transgressions are many, what does it do to him?

so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherit the promises.

When a wicked person arrives, contempt shows up with him, and with shame comes a reproach.

By all these things, I have shown you that by working in this way we must help the weak, and remember the words of the Lord Jesus that he himself said,‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

But whoever has the world’s possessions and sees his fellow Christian in need and shuts off his compassion against him, how can the love of God reside in such a person?Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth.And by this we will know that we are of the truth and will convince our conscience in his presence,that if our conscience condemns us, that God is greater than our conscience and knows all things.Dear friends, if our conscience does not condemn us, we have confidence in the presence of God,and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing to him.

I want you to share your food with the hungry and to provide shelter for homeless, oppressed people. When you see someone naked, clothe him! Don’t turn your back on your own flesh and blood!Then your light will shine like the sunrise; your restoration will quickly arrive; your godly behavior will go before you, and the LORD’s splendor will be your rear guard.Then you will call out, and the LORD will respond; you will cry out, and he will reply,‘ Here I am.’ You must remove the burdensome yoke from among you and stop pointing fingers and speaking sinfully.You must actively help the hungry and feed the oppressed. Then your light will dispel the darkness, and your darkness will be transformed into noonday.The LORD will continually lead you; he will feed you even in parched regions. He will give you renewed strength, and you will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring that continually produces water.Your perpetual ruins will be rebuilt; you will reestablish the ancient foundations. You will be called,‘ The one who repairs broken walls, the one who makes the streets inhabitable again.’

He generously gives to the needy; his integrity endures. He will be vindicated and honored.

Therefore, O king, may my advice be pleasing to you. Break away from your sins by doing what is right, and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps your prosperity will be prolonged.”

It goes well for the one who generously lends money, and conducts his business honestly.

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can this kind of faith save him?If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacks daily food,and one of you says to them,“ Go in peace, keep warm and eat well,” but you do not give them what the body needs, what good is it?

Send your grain overseas, for after many days you will get a return.Divide your merchandise among seven or even eight investments, for you do not know what calamity may happen on earth.

Then the king will say to those on his right,‘ Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’Then the righteous will answer him,‘ Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or naked and clothe you?When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’And the king will answer them,‘ I tell you the truth, just as you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it for me.’“ Then he will say to those on his left,‘ Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels!For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink.I was a stranger and you did not receive me as a guest, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’Then they too will answer,‘ Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not give you whatever you needed?’Then he will answer them,‘ I tell you the truth, just as you did not do it for one of the least of these, you did not do it for me.’And these will depart into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly! When trouble comes, the LORD delivers him.May the LORD protect him and save his life! May he be blessed in the land! Do not turn him over to his enemies!

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! Did not God choose the poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?But you have dishonored the poor! Are not the rich oppressing you and dragging you into the courts?

Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your possessions back from the person who takes them away.Treat others in the same way that you would want them to treat you.“ If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.And if you lend to those from whom you hope to be repaid, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, so that they may be repaid in full.But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people.Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Jesus also told this parable to some who were confident that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else.
