The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever shows kindness to the poor will be happy.

藐视邻舍的，这人有罪；怜悯贫穷的，这人有福。

藐视邻舍是罪过，怜悯穷人蒙福乐。

藐视自己邻人的，是有罪的；恩待卑微人的，是蒙福的！

藐視鄰舍的，這人有罪；憐憫貧窮的，這人有福。

It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor, but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.

It is a sin to hate your neighbor. But blessed is the person who is kind to those in need.

Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor.

It is a sin to belittle one’s neighbor; blessed are those who help the poor.

The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever shows kindness to the poor will be happy.

One who despises his neighbor sins, But one who is gracious to the poor is blessed.

He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth; But he that hath pity on the poor, happy is he.

He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy[ is] he.

Kindness to the poor is a loan to the Lord, and He will give a reward to the lender.

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a man with understanding keeps silent.

The one who oppresses the poor person insults his Maker, but one who is kind to the needy honors Him.

For He has not despised or detested the torment of the afflicted. He did not hide His face from him but listened when he cried to Him for help.

If I have dismissed the case of my male or female servants when they made a complaint against me,what could I do when God stands up to judge? How should I answer Him when He calls me to account?Did not the One who made me in the womb also make them? Did not the same God form us both in the womb?

One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor.A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water.

Look at the heavens and see; gaze at the clouds high above you.If you sin, how does it affect God? If you multiply your transgressions, what does it do to Him?

so that you won’t become lazy but will be imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and perseverance.

When a wicked man comes, contempt also does, and along with dishonor, disgrace.

In every way I’ve shown you that by laboring like this, it is necessary to help the weak and to keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus, for He said,‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

If anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but closes his eyes to his need— how can God’s love reside in him?Little children, we must not love with word or speech, but with truth and action.This is how we will know we belong to the truth and will convince our conscience in His presence,even if our conscience condemns us, that God is greater than our conscience, and He knows all things.Dear friends, if our conscience doesn’t condemn us, we have confidence before Godand can receive whatever we ask from Him because we keep His commands and do what is pleasing in His sight.

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your house, to clothe the naked when you see him, and not to ignore your own flesh and blood?Then your light will appear like the dawn, and your recovery will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and the Lord’s glory will be your rear guard.At that time, when you call, the Lord will answer; when you cry out, He will say,‘ Here I am.’ If you get rid of the yoke among you, the finger-pointing and malicious speaking,and if you offer yourself to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted one, then your light will shine in the darkness, and your night will be like noonday.The Lord will always lead you, satisfy you in a parched land, and strengthen your bones. You will be like a watered garden and like a spring whose waters never run dry.Some of you will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will restore the foundations laid long ago; you will be called the repairer of broken walls, the restorer of streets where people live.

He distributes freely to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted in honor.

Therefore, may my advice seem good to you my king. Separate yourself from your sins by doing what is right, and from your injustices by showing mercy to the needy. Perhaps there will be an extension of your prosperity.”

Good will come to a man who lends generously and conducts his business fairly.

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can his faith save him?If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily foodand one of you says to them,“ Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it?

Send your bread on the surface of the waters, for after many days you may find it.Give a portion to seven or even to eight, for you don’t know what disaster may happen on earth.

Then the King will say to those on His right,‘ Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me; I was in prison and you visited Me.’“ Then the righteous will answer Him,‘ Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink?When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or without clothes and clothe You?When did we see You sick, or in prison, and visit You?’“ And the King will answer them,‘ I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’Then He will also say to those on the left,‘ Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels!For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink;I was a stranger and you didn’t take Me in; I was naked and you didn’t clothe Me, sick and in prison and you didn’t take care of Me.’“ Then they too will answer,‘ Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help You?’“ Then He will answer them,‘ I assure you: Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me either.’“ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Happy is one who cares for the poor; the Lord will save him in a day of adversity.The Lord will keep him and preserve him; he will be blessed in the land. You will not give him over to the desire of his enemies.

Listen, my dear brothers: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that He has promised to those who love Him?Yet you dishonored that poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts?

Give to everyone who asks you, and from one who takes your things, don’t ask for them back.Just as you want others to do for you, do the same for them.If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.If you do what is good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners to be repaid in full.But love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is gracious to the ungrateful and evil.Be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else:
