It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor, but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.

If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking wickedly;and if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul: then shall thy light rise in darkness, and thine obscurity be as the noonday;and Jehovah will guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in dry places, and make strong thy bones; and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places; thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

He hath dispersed, he hath given to the needy; His righteousness endureth for ever: His horn shall be exalted with honor.

Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

Well is it with the man that dealeth graciously and lendeth; He shall maintain his cause in judgment.

What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him?If a brother or sister be naked and in lack of daily food,and one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body; what doth it profit?

Cast thy bread upon the waters; for thou shalt find it after many days.Give a portion to seven, yea, even unto eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.

Blessed is he that considereth the poor: Jehovah will deliver him in the day of evil.Jehovah will preserve him, and keep him alive, And he shall be blessed upon the earth; And deliver not thou him unto the will of his enemies.

Hearken, my beloved brethren; did not God choose them that are poor as to the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?But ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment- seats?

Give to every one that asketh thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.And if ye love them that love you, what thank have ye? for even sinners love those that love them.And if ye do good to them that do good to you, what thank have ye? for even sinners do the same.And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? even sinners lend to sinners, to receive again as much.But love your enemies, and do them good, and lend, never despairing; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be sons of the Most High: for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.Be ye merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

And he spake also this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought:
