The poor are shunned even by their neighbors, but the rich have many friends.

Many seek a ruler’s favor, and everyone is a friend of one who gives gifts.All the brothers of a poor person hate him; how much more do his friends keep their distance from him! He may pursue them with words, but they are not there.

Yet Haman controlled himself and went home. He sent for his friends and his wife Zeresh to join him.Then Haman described for them his glorious wealth and his many sons. He told them all how the king had honored him and promoted him in rank over the other officials and the royal staff.

The entire royal staff at the King’s Gate bowed down and paid homage to Haman, because the king had commanded this to be done for him. But Mordecai would not bow down or pay homage.

He has removed my brothers from me; my acquaintances have abandoned me.My relatives stop coming by, and my close friends have forgotten me.

So this is what you have now become to me. When you see something dreadful, you are afraid.Have I ever said,“ Give me something” or“ Pay a bribe for me from your wealth”or“ Deliver me from the enemy’s hand” or“ Redeem me from the hand of the ruthless”?

They despise me and keep their distance from me; they do not hesitate to spit in my face.
