The wise fear the Lord and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure.

A wise person has respect for the Lord and avoids evil. But a foolish person has a bad temper and yet feels secure.

One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless.

The wise are cautious and avoid danger; fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence.

For Herod himself had sent out and arrested John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.For John said to Herod,“ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him, but she couldn’t,

Blessed is the man who always fears; but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.

To man he said,‘ Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”

He said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for. By the fear of Yahweh men depart from evil.

Esau said,“ I have enough, my brother; let that which you have be yours.”

He followed her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, as a fool stepping into a noose.

The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

Ben Hadad sent to him, and said,“ The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria will be enough for handfuls for all the people who follow me.”The king of Israel answered,“ Tell him,‘ Don’t let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off.’”

My flesh trembles for fear of you. I am afraid of your judgments.

Depart from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it.

The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

But the former governors who were before me were supported by the people, and took bread and wine from them, plus forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people; but I didn’t do so, because of the fear of God.
