Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.

Those who turn away from their training become poor and ashamed. But those who accept warnings are honored.

LORD, don’t your eyes look for faithfulness? You have struck them, but they felt no pain. You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They made their faces harder than rock, and they refused to return.Then I thought: They are just the poor; they have been foolish. For they don’t understand the way of the LORD, the justice of their God.I will go to the powerful and speak to them. Surely they know the way of the LORD, the justice of their God. However, these also had broken the yoke and torn off the chains.Therefore, a lion from the forest will strike them down. A wolf from arid plains will ravage them. A leopard stalks their cities. Anyone who leaves them will be torn to pieces because their rebellious acts are many, their unfaithful deeds numerous.Why should I forgive you? Your children have abandoned me and sworn by those who are not gods. I satisfied their needs, yet they committed adultery; they gashed themselves at the prostitute’s house.They are well-fed, eager stallions, each neighing after someone else’s wife.Should I not punish them for these things? This is the LORD’s declaration. Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?

The one who has contempt for instruction will pay the penalty, but the one who respects a command will be rewarded.

See to it that you do not reject the one who speaks. For if they did not escape when they rejected him who warned them on earth, even less will we if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven.

Many seek a ruler’s favor, and everyone is a friend of one who gives gifts.

A wise correction to a receptive ear is like a gold ring or an ornament of gold.

Otherwise, you will give up your vitality to others and your years to someone cruel;strangers will drain your resources, and your hard-earned pay will end up in a foreigner’s house.At the end of your life, you will lament when your physical body has been consumed,and you will say,“ How I hated discipline, and how my heart despised correction.I didn’t obey my teachers or listen closely to my instructors.I am on the verge of complete ruin before the entire community.”

Let the righteous one strike me— it is an act of faithful love; let him rebuke me— it is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. Even now my prayer is against the evil acts of the wicked.
