and, by the signs he was permitted to perform on behalf of the beast, he deceived those who live on the earth. He told those who live on the earth to make an image to the beast who had been wounded by the sword, but still lived.

So that huge dragon– the ancient serpent, the one called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world– was thrown down to the earth, and his angels along with him.

For by speaking high- sounding but empty words they are able to entice, with fleshly desires and with debauchery, people who have just escaped from those who reside in error.Although these false teachers promise such people freedom, they themselves are enslaved to immorality. For whatever a person succumbs to, to that he is enslaved.For if after they have escaped the filthy things of the world through the rich knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they again get entangled in them and succumb to them, their last state has become worse for them than their first.For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than, having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment that had been delivered to them.They are illustrations of this true proverb:“ A dog returns to its own vomit,” and“ A sow, after washing herself, wallows in the mire.”

As for God’s chosen people who are in the land, and the leading officials I admired so much–

Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are perverse.For this finds God’s favor, if because of conscience toward God someone endures hardships in suffering unjustly.For what credit is it if you sin and are mistreated and endure it? But if you do good and suffer and so endure, this finds favor with God.For to this you were called, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving an example for you to follow in his steps.
