The one who has knowledge restrains his words, and one who keeps a cool head is a person of understanding.

For by uttering boastful, empty words, they seduce, with fleshly desires and debauchery, people who have barely escaped from those who live in error.They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption, since people are enslaved to whatever defeats them.For if, having escaped the world’s impurity through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in these things and defeated, the last state is worse for them than the first.For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy command delivered to them.It has happened to them according to the true proverb: A dog returns to its own vomit, and,“ A washed sow returns to wallowing in the mud.”

As for the holy people who are in the land, they are the noble ones. All my delight is in them.

Household slaves, submit to your masters with all reverence not only to the good and gentle ones but also to the cruel.For it brings favor if, because of a consciousness of God, someone endures grief from suffering unjustly.For what credit is there if when you do wrong and are beaten, you endure it? But when you do what is good and suffer, if you endure it, this brings favor with God.For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
