人驕矜必致取辱、謙遜者可謂有智、

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

破敗以先，必有驕傲；絆跌之前，靈裡高慢。靈裡降卑、與卑微的人在一起，好過與傲慢者同分戰利品。

敬畏耶和華是智慧所訓導的；榮耀之前，先有謙卑。

我告訴你們：下去回家時已經被稱為義的是這個稅吏，而不是那個法利賽人。因為每一個自我高舉的都會被降卑；而自我降卑的都會被高舉。」

人的自高，將使他降卑；靈裡謙卑的，必得榮耀。

破敗之前，人心自高；榮耀之前，先有謙卑。

他譏諷那些譏諷者，把恩惠賜給卑微人。智慧人將繼承榮耀，愚昧人卻蒙受羞辱。

關於祭過偶像的食物，我們知道「我們都有知識。」知識使人自我膨脹，但是愛能造就人。如果有人自以為知道了什麼，照著應該知道的，他還是不知道。

「你被人邀請赴婚宴的時候，不要坐在上座，恐怕有比你更尊貴的人也被邀請，那邀請你們的會來對你說：『請讓座給這一位！』那時候，你就要羞慚地去坐末位了。「你被邀請的時候，要去坐在末位上，好讓邀請你的人一旦來，就會對你說：『朋友，請來上座。』那時候，你就在所有一同坐席的人面前有光彩了。因為每一個自我高舉的都會被降卑；而自我降卑的都會被高舉。」

開口說：「這大巴比倫，難道不是我以自己的權能力量建為國都，為要顯出我威嚴的尊榮嗎？」這話還在王的口中，就有聲音從天上降下，說：「尼布甲尼撒王啊，這是對你的宣告：你的國權從你那裡被移除了！你必從人間被趕出，你的住處必與田野的走獸在一起；你必像牛那樣吃牧草，讓七個時期從你流過，直到你明白：至高者在人的國中掌權，他願意把國賜給誰就賜給誰。」
