It is foolish to belittle one’s neighbor; a sensible person keeps quiet.

Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.

Whoever makes fun of their neighbor has no sense. But the one who has understanding controls their tongue.

Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent.

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a person with understanding keeps silent.

One who despises his neighbor lacks sense, But a person of understanding keeps silent.

He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor, But a man of understanding holds his peace.

He that despiseth his neighbor is void of wisdom; But a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a man with understanding keeps silent.

He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

The one who denounces his neighbor lacks wisdom, but the one who has discernment keeps silent.

One who despises his neighbor is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding holds his peace.

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.

Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else:

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt.We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant.

The Pharisees, who dearly loved their money, heard all this and scoffed at him.

Then Zebul turned on him and asked,“ Now where is that big mouth of yours? Wasn’t it you that said,‘ Who is Abimelech, and why should we be his servants?’ The men you mocked are right outside the city! Go out and fight them!”

But there were some scoundrels who complained,“ How can this man save us?” And they scorned him and refused to bring him gifts. It is a sin to belittle one’s neighbor; blessed are those who help the poor.

saying in front of his friends and the Samarian army officers,“ What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they’re doing? Do they think they can build the wall in a single day by just offering a few sacrifices? Do they actually think they can make something of stones from a rubbish heap— and charred ones at that?”Tobiah the Ammonite, who was standing beside him, remarked,“ That stone wall would collapse if even a fox walked along the top of it!”Then I prayed,“ Hear us, our God, for we are being mocked. May their scoffing fall back on their own heads, and may they themselves become captives in a foreign land!

But the people were silent and did not utter a word because Hezekiah had commanded them,“ Do not answer him.”

During the annual harvest festival at Shechem, held in the temple of the local god, the wine flowed freely, and everyone began cursing Abimelech.“ Who is Abimelech?” Gaal shouted.“ He’s not a true son of Shechem, so why should we be his servants? “ Is there a single one of us rulers or Pharisees who believes in him?This foolish crowd follows him, but they are ignorant of the law. God’s curse is on them!”Then Nicodemus, the leader who had met with Jesus earlier, spoke up.“ Is it legal to convict a man before he is given a hearing?” he asked.They replied,“ Are you from Galilee, too?
