The one who denounces his neighbor lacks wisdom, but the one who has discernment keeps silent.

藐视邻舍的，毫无智慧；明哲人却静默不言。

藐视自己邻人的，缺乏心智；聪慧的人却保持沉默。

無知者輕視鄰舍，明哲人保持緘默。

蔑鄰者無知、通達者緘口、

愚者暴人之短、智者隱人之惡。

無知者侮慢同人、明哲人緘默不言、

Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.

Whoever makes fun of their neighbor has no sense. But the one who has understanding controls their tongue.

Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent.

It is foolish to belittle one’s neighbor; a sensible person keeps quiet.

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a person with understanding keeps silent.

One who despises his neighbor lacks sense, But a person of understanding keeps silent.

He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor, But a man of understanding holds his peace.

He that despiseth his neighbor is void of wisdom; But a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a man with understanding keeps silent.

He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

One who despises his neighbor is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding holds his peace.

When he was maligned, he did not answer back; when he suffered, he threatened no retaliation, but committed himself to God who judges justly.

When words abound, transgression is inevitable, but the one who restrains his words is wise.

Jesus also told this parable to some who were confident that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else.

Show us favor, O LORD, show us favor! For we have had our fill of humiliation, and then some.We have had our fill of the taunts of the self-assured, of the contempt of the proud.

The Pharisees( who loved money) heard all this and ridiculed him.

Zebul said to him,“ Where now are your bragging words,‘ Who is Abimelech that we should serve him?’ Are these not the men you insulted? Go out now and fight them!”

But some wicked men said,“ How can this man save us?” They despised him and did not even bring him a gift. But Saul said nothing about it.

The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever is kind to the needy is blessed.

and in the presence of his colleagues and the army of Samaria he said,“ What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they be left to themselves? Will they again offer sacrifice? Will they finish this in a day? Can they bring these burnt stones to life again from piles of dust?”Then Tobiah the Ammonite, who was close by, said,“ If even a fox were to climb up on what they are building, it would break down their wall of stones!”Hear, O our God, for we are despised! Return their reproach on their own head! Reduce them to plunder in a land of exile!

The people were silent and did not respond, for the king had ordered,“ Don’t respond to him.”

They went out to the field, harvested their grapes, squeezed out the juice, and celebrated. They came to the temple of their god and ate, drank, and cursed Abimelech.Gaal son of Ebed said,“ Who is Abimelech and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerub-Baal, and is not Zebul the deputy he appointed? Serve the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem! But why should we serve Abimelech?If only these men were under my command, I would get rid of Abimelech!” He challenged Abimelech,“ Muster your army and come out for battle!”

None of the rulers or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they?But this rabble who do not know the law are accursed!”Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before and who was one of the rulers, said,“ Our law doesn’t condemn a man unless it first hears from him and learns what he is doing, does it?”They replied,“ You aren’t from Galilee too, are you? Investigate carefully and you will see that no prophet comes from Galilee!”[[
