Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.

Yahweh has blessed my master greatly. He has become great. Yahweh has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, and camels and donkeys.

Yahweh makes poor and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up.He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill to make them sit with princes and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are Yahweh’s. He has set the world on them.

For such as are blessed by him shall inherit the land. Those who are cursed by him shall be cut off.

I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing.

and lest you say in your heart,“ My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.”But you shall remember Yahweh your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as it is today.

An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning, won’t be blessed in the end.

He raises up the poor out of the dust. Lifts up the needy from the ash heap,that he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn’t know that poverty waits for him.

Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you.Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth- eaten.Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days.Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies.You have lived in luxury on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him?Will he delight himself in the Almighty, and call on God at all times?I will teach you about the hand of God. I will not conceal that which is with the Almighty.Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?“ This is the portion of a wicked man with God, the heritage of oppressors, which they receive from the Almighty.If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword. His offspring will not be satisfied with bread.Those who remain of him will be buried in death. His widows will make no lamentation.Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay;he may prepare it, but the just will put it on, and the innocent will divide the silver.He builds his house as the moth, as a booth which the watchman makes.He lies down rich, but he will not do so again. He opens his eyes, and he is not.Terrors overtake him like waters. A storm steals him away in the night.The east wind carries him away, and he departs. It sweeps him out of his place.For it hurls at him, and does not spare, as he flees away from his hand.Men will clap their hands at him, and will hiss him out of his place.

that I will not take a thread nor a sandal strap nor anything that is yours, lest you should say,‘ I have made Abram rich.’

He said to him,“ Didn’t my heart go with you, when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves and vineyards, and sheep and cattle, and male servants and female servants?Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your offspring forever.” He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.

But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against the children of Israel.Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying,“ Go up and spy out the land.” The men went up and spied out Ai.They returned to Joshua, and said to him,“ Don’t let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Don’t make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them.”So about three thousand men of the people went up there, and they fled before the men of Ai.The men of Ai struck about thirty- six men of them. They chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water.Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before Yahweh’s ark until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.Joshua said,“ Alas, Lord Yahweh, why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? I wish that we had been content and lived beyond the Jordan!Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?”Yahweh said to Joshua,“ Get up! Why have you fallen on your face like that?Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken some of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff.Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.Get up! Sanctify the people, and say,‘ Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, for Yahweh, the God of Israel, says,“ There is a devoted thing among you, Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.”In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. It shall be that the tribe which Yahweh selects shall come near by families. The family which Yahweh selects shall come near by households. The household which Yahweh selects shall come near man by man.It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed Yahweh’s covenant, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected.He brought near the family of Judah, and he selected the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was selected.He brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.Joshua said to Achan,“ My son, please give glory to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don’t hide it from me!”Achan answered Joshua, and said,“ I have truly sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done.When I saw among the plunder a beautiful Babylonian robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it.”So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. Behold, it was hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.They took them from the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel. They laid them down before Yahweh.Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.Joshua said,“ Why have you troubled us? Yahweh will trouble you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.They raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day. Yahweh turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called“ The valley of Achor” to this day.

I will cause it to go out,” says Yahweh of Armies,“ and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name; and it will remain in the middle of his house, and will destroy it with its timber and its stones.”

Won’t all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say,‘ Woe to him who increases that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion! How long?’Won’t your debtors rise up suddenly, and wake up those who make you tremble, and you will be their victim?Because you have plundered many nations, all the remnant of the peoples will plunder you, because of men’s blood, and for the violence done to the land, to the city and to all who dwell in it.Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil!You have devised shame to your house, by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul.For the stone will cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the woodwork will answer it.Woe to him who builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity!

You shall speak to him, saying,‘ Yahweh says,“ Have you killed and also taken possession?”’ You shall speak to him, saying,‘ Yahweh says,“ In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs will lick your blood, even yours.”’”

But as for you, only keep yourselves from what is devoted to destruction, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so you would make the camp of Israel accursed and trouble it.
