“ The wrong path that childish people take will kill them. Foolish people will be destroyed by being satisfied with the way they live.

For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them;

For simpletons turn away from me— to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency.

For the apostasy of the inexperienced will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.

For the faithlessness of the naive will kill them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them.

For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them;

For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, And the careless ease of fools shall destroy them.

See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you. Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the Lord your God and have no awe of me,” declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

“ Moab has been at rest from youth, like wine left on its dregs, not poured from one jar to another— she has not gone into exile. So she tastes as she did, and her aroma is unchanged.But days are coming,” declares the Lord,“ when I will send men who pour from pitchers, and they will pour her out; they will empty her pitchers and smash her jars.

Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand,that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.

May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap.

If you are not disciplined— and everyone undergoes discipline— then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.

Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; filled with food, they became heavy and sleek. They abandoned the God who made them and rejected the Rock their Savior.They made him jealous with their foreign gods and angered him with their detestable idols.They sacrificed to false gods, which are not God— gods they had not known, gods that recently appeared, gods your ancestors did not fear.You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth.The Lord saw this and rejected them because he was angered by his sons and daughters.“ I will hide my face from them,” he said,“ and see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation, children who are unfaithful.They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols. I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding.For a fire will be kindled by my wrath, one that burns down to the realm of the dead below. It will devour the earth and its harvests and set afire the foundations of the mountains.“ I will heap calamities on them and spend my arrows against them.I will send wasting famine against them, consuming pestilence and deadly plague; I will send against them the fangs of wild beasts, the venom of vipers that glide in the dust.In the street the sword will make them childless; in their homes terror will reign. The young men and young women will perish, the infants and those with gray hair.I said I would scatter them and erase their name from human memory,but I dreaded the taunt of the enemy, lest the adversary misunderstand and say,‘ Our hand has triumphed; the Lord has not done all this.’”They are a nation without sense, there is no discernment in them.If only they were wise and would understand this and discern what their end will be!How could one man chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the Lord had given them up?For their rock is not like our Rock, as even our enemies concede.Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are filled with poison, and their clusters with bitterness.Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras.“ Have I not kept this in reserve and sealed it in my vaults?It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.”The Lord will vindicate his people and relent concerning his servants when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave or free.He will say:“ Now where are their gods, the rock they took refuge in,the gods who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up to help you! Let them give you shelter!“ See now that I myself am he! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand.I lift my hand to heaven and solemnly swear: As surely as I live forever,when I sharpen my flashing sword and my hand grasps it in judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and repay those who hate me.I will make my arrows drunk with blood, while my sword devours flesh: the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders.”Rejoice, you nations, with his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants; he will take vengeance on his enemies and make atonement for his land and people.Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people.

“ There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with soresand longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.“ The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.So he called to him,‘ Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’“ But Abraham replied,‘ Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.

And,“ But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.”But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.

And he told them this parable:“ The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest.He thought to himself,‘ What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’“ Then he said,‘ This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain.And I’ll say to myself,“ You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’“ This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.
