斯時籲我、而我弗聽、竭力求恩、而不可得。

斯時呼籲我而我不應、尋求我而不得遇、

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Does God listen to their cry when distress comes upon them?

Therefore this is what the Lord says:‘ I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them.

Although they fast, I will not listen to their cry; though they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Instead, I will destroy them with the sword, famine and plague.”

“‘ When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,’ says the Lord Almighty.

When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood!

Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them.”

“ But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.“ Later the others also came.‘ Lord, Lord,’ they said,‘ open the door for us!’“ But he replied,‘ Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

Many will say to me on that day,‘ Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’Then I will tell them plainly,‘ I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

They cried for help, but there was no one to save them— to the Lord, but he did not answer.

He does not answer when people cry out because of the arrogance of the wicked.

Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading,‘ Sir, open the door for us.’“ But he will answer,‘ I don’t know you or where you come from.’“ Then you will say,‘ We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’“ But he will reply,‘ I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’“ There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out.

I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.

Whenever God slew them, they would seek him; they eagerly turned to him again.They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.But then they would flatter him with their mouths, lying to him with their tongues;
