Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it.

That’s what happens to everyone who goes after money in the wrong way. That kind of money takes away the life of those who get it.

Such are the ways of everyone who is greedy for unjust gain; it takes away the life of its possessors.

Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money; it robs them of life.

Such are the ways of everyone who makes unjust gain; It takes away the life of its possessors.

So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; It takes away the life of its owners.

So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; It taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

The one who profits dishonestly troubles his household, but the one who hates bribes will live.

They will exploit you in their greed with made-up stories. Their condemnation, pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.

not an excessive drinker, not a bully but gentle, not quarrelsome, not greedy.

saying,“ Give me this power also so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”But Peter told him,“ May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!

Gehazi, the attendant of Elisha the man of God, thought,“ My master has let this Aramean Naaman off lightly by not accepting from him what he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”So Gehazi pursued Naaman. When Naaman saw someone running after him, he got down from the chariot to meet him and asked,“ Is everything all right?”Gehazi said,“ It’s all right. My master has sent me to say,‘ I have just now discovered that two young men from the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them seventy-five pounds of silver and two sets of clothing.’”But Naaman insisted,“ Please, accept one hundred fifty pounds.” He urged Gehazi and then packed one hundred fifty pounds of silver in two bags with two sets of clothing. Naaman gave them to two of his attendants who carried them ahead of Gehazi.When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the gifts from them and deposited them in the house. Then he dismissed the men, and they left.Gehazi came and stood by his master.“ Where did you go, Gehazi?” Elisha asked him. He replied,“ Your servant didn’t go anywhere.”“ And my heart didn’t go when the man got down from his chariot to meet you,” Elisha said.“ Is this a time to accept silver and clothing, olive orchards and vineyards, flocks and herds, and male and female slaves?Therefore, Naaman’s skin disease will cling to you and your descendants forever.” So Gehazi went out from his presence diseased, resembling snow.

if I have consumed its produce without payment or shown contempt for its tenants,

Come now, you rich people, weep and wail over the miseries that are coming on you.Your wealth has rotted and your clothes are moth-eaten.Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have stored up treasure in the last days.Look! The pay that you withheld from the workers who mowed your fields cries out, and the outcry of the harvesters has reached the ears of the Lord of Armies.

don’t desire his choice food, for that food is deceptive.Don’t wear yourself out to get rich; because you know better, stop!

Woe to those who dream up wickedness and prepare evil plans on their beds! At morning light they accomplish it because the power is in their hands.They covet fields and seize them; they also take houses. They deprive a man of his home, a person of his inheritance.Therefore, the LORD says: I am now planning a disaster against this nation; you cannot free your necks from it. Then you will not walk so proudly because it will be an evil time.

Woe to him who dishonestly makes wealth for his house to place his nest on high, to escape the grasp of disaster!

There is a sickening tragedy I have seen under the sun: wealth kept by its owner to his harm.

They have eyes full of adultery that never stop looking for sin. They seduce unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse!They have gone astray by abandoning the straight path and have followed the path of Balaam, the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of wickednessbut received a rebuke for his lawlessness: A speechless donkey spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.

“ You just saw him!” Joab exclaimed.“ Why didn’t you strike him to the ground right there? I would have given you ten silver pieces and a belt!”The man replied to Joab,“ Even if I had the weight of a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I would not raise my hand against the king’s son. For we heard the king command you, Abishai, and Ittai,‘ Protect the young man Absalom for me.’If I had jeopardized my own life— and nothing is hidden from the king— you would have abandoned me.”

who build Zion with bloodshed and Jerusalem with injustice.Her leaders issue rulings for a bribe, her priests teach for payment, and her prophets practice divination for silver. Yet they lean on the LORD, saying,“ Isn’t the LORD among us? No disaster will overtake us.”Therefore, because of you, Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become ruins, and the temple’s mountain will be a high thicket.

But you have eyes and a heart for nothing except your own dishonest profit, shedding innocent blood and committing extortion and oppression.Therefore, this is what the LORD says concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah: They will not mourn for him, saying,“ Woe, my brother!” or“ Woe, my sister!” They will not mourn for him, saying,“ Woe, lord! Woe, his majesty!”He will be buried like a donkey, dragged off and thrown outside Jerusalem’s gates.

But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
