Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account.

It is not that I want your gifts. What I really want is what is best for you.

Here is another way that our people can learn to engage in good works to meet pressing needs and so not be unfruitful.

For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love you have demonstrated for his name, in having served and continuing to serve the saints.

Just as it is written,“ He has scattered widely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains forever.”Now God who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your supply of seed and will cause the harvest of your righteousness to grow.You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous on every occasion, which is producing through us thanksgiving to God,because the service of this ministry is not only providing for the needs of the saints but is also overflowing with many thanks to God.Through the evidence of this service they will glorify God because of your obedience to your confession in the gospel of Christ and the generosity of your sharing with them and with everyone.

For we never appeared with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed– God is our witness–

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content in any circumstance.

For the overseer must be blameless as one entrusted with God’s work, not arrogant, not prone to anger, not a drunkard, not violent, not greedy for gain.

My Father is honored by this, that you bear much fruit and show that you are my disciples.

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that remains, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.

He said also to the man who had invited him,“ When you host a dinner or a banquet, don’t invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors so you can be invited by them in return and get repaid.But when you host an elaborate meal, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.Then you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

If we sowed spiritual blessings among you, is it too much to reap material things from you?If others receive this right from you, are we not more deserving? But we have not made use of this right. Instead we endure everything so that we may not be a hindrance to the gospel of Christ.Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple eat food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar receive a part of the offerings?In the same way the Lord commanded those who proclaim the gospel to receive their living by the gospel.But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing these things so that something will be done for me. In fact, it would be better for me to die than– no one will deprive me of my reason for boasting!

Then the king will say to those on his right,‘ Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’Then the righteous will answer him,‘ Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or naked and clothe you?When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’And the king will answer them,‘ I tell you the truth, just as you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it for me.’

Therefore after I have completed this and have safely delivered this bounty to them, I will set out for Spain by way of you,

I have desired no one’s silver or gold or clothing.You yourselves know that these hands of mine provided for my needs and the needs of those who were with me.

“ Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.Whoever receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. Whoever receives a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward.And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, I tell you the truth, he will never lose his reward.”

The one who is gracious to the poor lends to the LORD, and the LORD will repay him for his good deed.

Therefore I thought it necessary to urge these brothers to go to you in advance and to arrange ahead of time the generous contribution you had promised, so this may be ready as a generous gift and not as something you feel forced to do.

Give a shepherd’s care to God’s flock among you, exercising oversight not merely as a duty but willingly under God’s direction, not for shameful profit but eagerly.

“ I wish that one of you would close the temple doors, so that you no longer would light useless fires on my altar. I am not pleased with you,” says the LORD who rules over all,“ and I will no longer accept an offering from you.

not a drunkard, not violent, but gentle, not contentious, free from the love of money.

I say again, let no one think that I am a fool. But if you do, then at least accept me as a fool, so that I too may boast a little.

I am depressed! Indeed, it is as if the summer fruit has been gathered, and the grapes have been harvested. There is no grape cluster to eat, no fresh figs that I crave so much.

For the love of money is the root of all evils. Some people in reaching for it have strayed from the faith and stabbed themselves with many pains.

And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation pronounced long ago is not sitting idly by; their destruction is not asleep.

filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.

Woe to them! For they have traveled down Cain’s path, and because of greed have abandoned themselves to Balaam’s error; hence, they will certainly perish in Korah’s rebellion.

By forsaking the right path they have gone astray, because they followed the way of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness,
