I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.

I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.

I know how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content— whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need.

I know how to get along with little, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.

I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

勞碌辛苦，多次不得睡覺，又飢又渴，多次缺糧，赤身挨冷。

我心裡柔和謙卑，你們應當負我的軛，向我學習，你們就必得著心靈的安息；

又因為我所得的啟示太大，恐怕會高抬自己，所以就有一根刺加在我的身上，就是撒但的差役來攻擊我，免得我高抬自己。為了這事，我曾經三次求主，使這根刺離開我。他卻對我說：“我的恩典是夠你用的，因為我的能力在人的軟弱上顯得完全。”所以，我更喜歡誇自己的軟弱，好讓基督的能力臨到我的身上。因此，我為基督的緣故，就以軟弱、凌辱、艱難、迫害、困苦為喜樂，因為我甚麼時候軟弱，甚麼時候就剛強了。

我在你們那裡有缺乏的時候，並沒有連累任何人，因為從馬其頓來的弟兄們，補足了我的缺乏。我在各方面都不讓自己成為你們的重擔，將來也是一樣。

反而在各樣的事上，表明自己是神的僕人，就如持久的忍耐、患難、貧乏、困苦、鞭打、監禁、擾亂、勞苦、不睡覺、禁食、純潔、知識、容忍、恩慈、聖靈、無偽的愛心、真理的道、神的大能等事上；並且是藉著左右兩手中公義的武器，藉著榮耀和羞辱、壞名聲和好名譽。我們好像是騙人的，卻是真誠的，好像是人所不知的，卻是人所共知的；好像是必死的，你看，我們卻是活著的；好像是受懲罰的，卻沒有處死；好像憂愁，卻是常常喜樂的；好像貧窮，卻使很多人富足；好像是甚麼都沒有，卻是樣樣都有。

我回轉以後，就深深悔悟；我醒覺以後，就拍腿悔恨。因為我承受年幼時的恥辱，我感到羞恥和慚愧。’

我保羅與你們見面的時候是謙卑的，不在你們那裡的時候，卻是放膽的。現在我親自以基督的謙遜溫柔勸你們，

我想神是把我們作使徒的列在最後，好像定了死刑的人，因為我們成了一臺戲給宇宙觀看，就是給天使和世人觀看！我們為基督的緣故，成了愚笨的；你們在基督裡，倒成了聰明的。我們軟弱，你們倒強壯；你們受人尊敬，我們倒被輕視。直到現在，我們還是又飢又渴，衣不蔽體，又挨打，又沒有棲身的地方，並且勞苦，親手作工。被人咒罵，我們就祝福；遭受迫害，我們就忍受；被人毀謗，我們卻好好地勸導；直到現在，人還是把我們當作世上的垃圾，萬物的渣滓。

耶和華在曠野之地遇見了他，在荒涼之地和野獸吼叫的荒野，遇見了他，就環繞他，看顧他，保護他，好像保護自己眼中的瞳人一樣。

耶和華以大能的手托住我，教導我不要走這子民所走的道路；他對我這樣說：

因為有人說：“他的信又嚴厲又強硬，他本人卻其貌不揚，言語粗俗。”

我貶低自己，使你們高升，把神的福音白白地傳給你們，我這樣是犯罪嗎？

你賜下良善的靈教導他們；你沒有留住嗎哪不給他們吃；你給他們水解渴。

耶穌說：“所以，每一個作天國門徒的經學家，就像家主從寶庫中拿出新和舊的東西來。”

但是你們從基督所學的，卻不是這樣。如果你們聽了他，在他裡面受過教導，（因為真理是在耶穌裡的，）
