I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

I know what it’s like not to have what I need. I also know what it’s like to have more than I need. I have learned the secret of being content no matter what happens. I am content whether I am well fed or hungry. I am content whether I have more than enough or not enough.

I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.

I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.

I know how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content— whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need.

I know how to get along with little, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.

I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

我勞碌困苦，不得安眠，又饑又渴，挨餓受凍，赤身露體。

我心柔和謙卑，你們要負我的軛，向我學習，這樣你們的心靈就必得享安息。

為了使我不至於因所受的啟示太大而自高，有一根「刺」在我身上，就是有撒旦的爪牙攻擊我，免得我驕傲自大。我曾三次祈求主叫這根刺離開我，但祂說：「我的恩典足夠你用，因為我的能力在人的軟弱上更顯得全備。」所以，我更喜歡誇耀自己的軟弱，好讓基督的能力蔭庇我。因此，為了基督的緣故，我欣然面對軟弱、凌辱、迫害、艱難和困苦，因為我軟弱的時候也正是我剛強的時候。

我在你們那裡經濟拮据的時候，沒有拖累過你們任何人，因為馬其頓來的弟兄姊妹補足了我的缺乏。我沒有在任何方面成為你們的負擔，將來也不會成為你們的負擔。

反倒在任何事上都顯明自己是上帝的僕人。不論遭遇什麼患難、艱苦、貧窮、鞭打、囚禁、暴亂、辛勞、無眠或饑餓，我們都堅忍到底，靠著純潔、知識、忍耐、仁慈、聖靈的感動、無偽的愛心、真理之道、上帝的大能、左右手中的公義兵器，無論是得榮耀還是受羞辱，遭毀謗還是得稱讚，都顯明自己是上帝的僕人。我們被視為騙子，卻是誠實無偽；似乎默默無聞，卻是家喻戶曉；似乎快死了，看啊！我們卻仍然活著；受嚴刑拷打，卻沒有喪命；似乎鬱鬱寡歡，卻常常喜樂；似乎一貧如洗，卻使多人富足；似乎一無所有，卻樣樣都有！

我們曾經離開你，但我們後悔了；我們醒悟之後捶胸頓足，痛悔不已，因早年的所作所為而羞愧難當。』」

你們以為我在你們中間的時候很溫和，不在你們中間的時候卻很嚴厲。如今，我保羅以基督的謙卑和溫柔親自勸你們：

我想，上帝把我們使徒排在隊伍的末尾，好像被判了死罪的囚犯，讓我們成了一台戲，給全宇宙看，就是給世人和天使觀看。我們為了基督的緣故被人看為愚昧，你們在基督裡倒成了聰明人；我們軟弱，你們倒強壯；你們受人尊敬，我們倒被人藐視。我們至今還是又饑又渴，衣不蔽體，遭受毒打，居無定所，還要親手勞作。我們被人咒罵，就為對方祝福；受人迫害，就逆來順受；被人毀謗，就好言相勸。人們至今仍將我們看作世上的廢物，萬物中的渣滓。

「在荒涼的曠野，在野獸吼叫的荒野，耶和華找到他們，庇護他們，看顧他們，保護他們如同保護眼中的瞳人，

耶和華大能的手按在我身上，警告我不可效法這些人。祂說：

因為有人說：「他信中的話有分量，很嚴厲，他本人卻軟弱無能，言語粗俗。」

我為了把福音白白地傳給你們，甘願卑微，以擢升你們，我這樣做有罪嗎？

你差遣你良善的靈去教導他們，沒有停止賜他們嗎哪吃，也沒有停止賜他們水喝。

耶穌說：「律法教師成為天國的門徒後，就像一個家的主人，能從他的庫房裡拿出新的和舊的東西來。」

但基督絕不是這樣教導你們的。如果你們聽過祂的事，領受了祂的教誨，就是在祂裡面的真理，
