I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

I know what it’s like not to have what I need. I also know what it’s like to have more than I need. I have learned the secret of being content no matter what happens. I am content whether I am well fed or hungry. I am content whether I have more than enough or not enough.

I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.

I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.

I know how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content— whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need.

I know how to get along with little, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.

I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

我劳碌困苦，不得安眠，又饥又渴，挨饿受冻，赤身露体。

我心柔和谦卑，你们要负我的轭，向我学习，这样你们的心灵必得享安息。

为了使我不至于因所受的启示太大而自高，有一根“刺”在我身上，就是有撒旦的爪牙攻击我，免得我骄傲自大。我曾三次祈求主叫这根刺离开我，但祂说：“我的恩典足够你用，因为我的能力在人的软弱上更显得全备。”所以，我更喜欢夸耀自己的软弱，好让基督的能力荫庇我。因此，为了基督的缘故，我欣然面对软弱、凌辱、迫害、艰难和困苦，因为我软弱的时候也正是我刚强的时候。

我在你们那里经济拮据的时候，没有拖累过你们任何人，因为马其顿来的弟兄姊妹补足了我的缺乏。我没有在任何方面成为你们的负担，将来也不会成为你们的负担。

反倒在任何事上都显明自己是上帝的仆人。不论遭遇什么患难、艰苦、贫穷、鞭打、囚禁、暴乱、辛劳、无眠或饥饿，我们都坚忍到底，靠着纯洁、知识、忍耐、仁慈、圣灵的感动、无伪的爱心、真理之道、上帝的大能、左右手中的公义兵器，无论是得荣耀还是受羞辱，遭毁谤还是得称赞，都显明自己是上帝的仆人。我们被视为骗子，却是诚实无伪；似乎默默无闻，却是家喻户晓；似乎快死了，看啊！我们却仍然活着；受严刑拷打，却没有丧命；似乎郁郁寡欢，却常常喜乐；似乎一贫如洗，却使多人富足；似乎一无所有，却样样都有！

我们曾经离开你，但我们后悔了；我们醒悟之后捶胸顿足，痛悔不已，因早年的所作所为而羞愧难当。’”

你们以为我在你们中间的时候很温和，不在你们中间的时候却很严厉。如今，我保罗以基督的谦卑和温柔亲自劝你们：

我想，上帝把我们使徒排在队伍的末尾，好像被判了死罪的囚犯，让我们成了一台戏，给全宇宙看，就是给世人和天使观看。我们为了基督的缘故被人看为愚昧，你们在基督里倒成了聪明人；我们软弱，你们倒强壮；你们受人尊敬，我们倒被人藐视。我们至今还是又饥又渴，衣不蔽体，遭受毒打，居无定所，还要亲手劳作。我们被人咒骂，就为对方祝福；受人迫害，就逆来顺受；被人毁谤，就好言相劝。人们至今仍将我们看作世上的废物，万物中的渣滓。

“在荒凉的旷野，在野兽吼叫的荒野，耶和华找到他们，庇护他们，看顾他们，保护他们如同保护眼中的瞳仁，

耶和华大能的手按在我身上，警告我不可效法这些人。祂说：

因为有人说：“他信中的话有分量，很严厉，他本人却软弱无能，言语粗俗。”

我为了把福音白白地传给你们，甘愿卑微，以擢升你们，我这样做有罪吗？

你差遣你良善的灵去教导他们，没有停止赐他们吗哪吃，也没有停止赐他们水喝。

耶稣说：“律法教师成为天国的门徒后，就像一个家的主人，能从他的库房里拿出新的和旧的东西来。”

但基督绝不是这样教导你们的。如果你们听过祂的事，领受了祂的教诲，就是在祂里面的真理，
