But you have come to Mount Zion, the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the assembly

because we are not looking at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen. For what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.For we know that if our earthly house, the tent we live in, is dismantled, we have a building from God, a house not built by human hands, that is eternal in the heavens.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,that is, into an inheritance imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. It is reserved in heaven for you,

Your faith and love have arisen from the hope laid up for you in heaven, which you have heard about in the message of truth, the gospel

and he raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

while waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God? Because of this day, the heavens will be burned up and dissolve, and the celestial bodies will melt away in a blaze!But, according to his promise, we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness truly resides.Therefore, dear friends, since you are waiting for these things, strive to be found at peace, without spot or blemish, when you come into his presence.

But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.

so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thus we are full of courage and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

Finally the crown of righteousness is reserved for me. The Lord, the righteous Judge, will award it to me in that day– and not to me only, but also to all who have set their affection on his appearing.

For in fact you shared the sufferings of those in prison, and you accepted the confiscation of your belongings with joy, because you knew that you certainly had a better and lasting possession.So do not throw away your confidence, because it has great reward.

Jesus said to him,“ If you wish to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

so also, after Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, to those who eagerly await him he will appear a second time, not to bear sin but to bring salvation.

“ Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.But accumulate for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Then you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

“ Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is well pleased to give you the kingdom.Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide yourselves purses that do not wear out– a treasure in heaven that never decreases, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The path of life is upward for the wise person, to keep him from going downward to Sheol.

At that time this song will be sung in the land of Judah:“ We have a strong city! The LORD’s deliverance, like walls and a rampart, makes it secure.Open the gates so a righteous nation can enter– one that remains trustworthy.

As for me, because I am innocent I will see your face; when I awake you will reveal yourself to me.

You lead me in the path of life; I experience absolute joy in your presence; you always give me sheer delight.

You guide me by your wise advice, and then you will lead me to a position of honor.Whom do I have in heaven but you? I desire no one but you on earth.My flesh and my heart may grow weak, but God always protects my heart and gives me stability.

and said,“ Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking up into the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the same way you saw him go into heaven.”

so that you can decide what is best, and thus be sincere and blameless for the day of Christ,

and to you who are being afflicted to give rest together with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels.With flaming fire he will mete out punishment on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

So he took me away in the Spirit to a huge, majestic mountain and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.The city possesses the glory of God; its brilliance is like a precious jewel, like a stone of crystal- clear jasper.It has a massive, high wall with twelve gates, with twelve angels at the gates, and the names of the twelve tribes of the nation of Israel are written on the gates.There are three gates on the east side, three gates on the north side, three gates on the south side and three gates on the west side.The wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them are the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.The angel who spoke to me had a golden measuring rod with which to measure the city and its foundation stones and wall.Now the city is laid out as a square, its length and width the same. He measured the city with the measuring rod at fourteen hundred miles( its length and width and height are equal).He also measured its wall, one hundred forty- four cubits according to human measurement, which is also the angel’s.The city’s wall is made of jasper and the city is pure gold, like transparent glass.The foundations of the city’s wall are decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation is jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.And the twelve gates are twelve pearls– each one of the gates is made from just one pearl! The main street of the city is pure gold, like transparent glass.Now I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God– the All- Powerful– and the Lamb are its temple.The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God lights it up, and its lamp is the Lamb.The nations will walk by its light and the kings of the earth will bring their grandeur into it.Its gates will never be closed during the day( and there will be no night there).They will bring the grandeur and the wealth of the nations into it,but nothing ritually unclean will ever enter into it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or practices falsehood, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

( Look! He is returning with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all the tribes on the earth will mourn because of him. This will certainly come to pass! Amen.)

What is the result? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is being proclaimed, and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.My confident hope is that I will in no way be ashamed but that with complete boldness, even now as always, Christ will be exalted in my body, whether I live or die.For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain.

So it is with the one who stores up riches for himself, but is not rich toward God.”
