Indeed, it is unable to do so.

They will exploit you in their greed with made-up stories. Their condemnation, pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

There were indeed false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves.

These people are dangerous reefs at your love feasts as they eat with you without reverence. They are shepherds who only look after themselves. They are waterless clouds carried along by winds; trees in late autumn— fruitless, twice dead and uprooted.They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shameful deeds; wandering stars for whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever.

But I will continue to do what I am doing, in order to deny an opportunity to those who want to be regarded as our equals in what they boast about.

For even the circumcised don’t keep the law themselves, and yet they want you to be circumcised in order to boast about your flesh.

So it is no great surprise if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will be according to their works.

This is what the LORD says concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who proclaim peace when they have food to sink their teeth into but declare war against the one who puts nothing in their mouths.

Why boast about evil, you hero! God’s faithful love is constant.

Elkanah went home to Ramah, but the boy served the LORD in the presence of the priest Eli.Eli’s sons were wicked men; they did not respect the LORDor the priests’ share of the sacrifices from the people. When anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged meat fork while the meat was boilingand plunge it into the container, kettle, cauldron, or cooking pot. The priest would claim for himself whatever the meat fork brought up. This is the way they treated all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.Even before the fat was burned, the priest’s servant would come and say to the one who was sacrificing,“ Give the priest some meat to roast, because he won’t accept boiled meat from you— only raw.”If that person said to him,“ The fat must be burned first; then you can take whatever you want for yourself,” the servant would reply,“ No, I insist that you hand it over right now. If you don’t, I’ll take it by force!”

so that all will be condemned— those who did not believe the truth but delighted in unrighteousness.

and constant disagreement among people whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a way to material gain.

traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

These people are discontented grumblers, living according to their desires; their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering people for their own advantage.

and then the lawless one will be revealed. The Lord Jesus will destroy him with the breath of his mouth and will bring him to nothing at the appearance of his coming.

It is necessary to silence them; they are ruining entire households by teaching what they shouldn’t in order to get money dishonestly.One of their very own prophets said,“ Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”

You eat the fat, wear the wool, and butcher the fattened animals, but you do not tend the flock.

They came up across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the encampment of the saints, the beloved city. Then fire came down from heaven and consumed them.The devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet are, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Then I’ll say to myself,“ You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.”’

“ There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen, feasting lavishly every day.

These people are springs without water, mists driven by a storm. The gloom of darkness has been reserved for them.For by uttering boastful, empty words, they seduce, with fleshly desires and debauchery, people who have barely escaped from those who live in error.They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption, since people are enslaved to whatever defeats them.

So what fruit was produced then from the things you are now ashamed of? The outcome of those things is death.

Israel’s watchmen are blind, all of them, they know nothing; all of them are mute dogs, they cannot bark; they dream, lie down, and love to sleep.These dogs have fierce appetites; they never have enough. And they are shepherds who have no discernment; all of them turn to their own way, every last one for his own profit.“ Come, let me get some wine, let’s guzzle some beer; and tomorrow will be like today, only far better!”

Her leaders issue rulings for a bribe, her priests teach for payment, and her prophets practice divination for silver. Yet they lean on the LORD, saying,“ Isn’t the LORD among us? No disaster will overtake us.”

But if that servant says in his heart,‘ My master is delaying his coming,’ and starts to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,that servant’s master will come on a day he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unfaithful.

Why, then, do all of you despise my sacrifices and offerings that I require at the place of worship? You have honored your sons more than me, by making yourselves fat with the best part of all of the offerings of my people Israel.’
