He appeared as a man. He was humble and obeyed God completely. He did this even though it led to his death. Even worse, he died on a cross!

既有人之式、又屈己、承順至死、甚而死於十架、

既為人、猶屈己順命致死、甚而死於十字架、

自卑而順服至死、甚而死於十字架、

其為人也、復謙之又謙、損之又損、惟天主之命是從；鞠躬盡瘁、死而後已、終至致命於十字架上。

And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

No one takes it from me. I give it up myself. I have the authority to give it up. And I have the authority to take it back again. I received this command from my Father.”

Let us keep looking to Jesus. He is the one who started this journey of faith. And he is the one who completes the journey of faith. He paid no attention to the shame of the cross. He suffered there because of the joy he was looking forward to. Then he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Many people were made sinners because one man did not obey. But one man did obey. That is why many people will be made right with God.

He went a little farther. Then he fell with his face to the ground. He prayed,“ My Father, if it is possible, take this cup of suffering away from me. But let what you want be done, not what I want.”

Christ also suffered once for sins. The one who did what is right suffered for those who don’t do right. He suffered to bring you to God. His body was put to death. But the Holy Spirit brought him back to life.

“ He himself carried our sins” in his body on the cross.( Isaiah 53:5) He did it so that we would die as far as sins are concerned. Then we would lead godly lives.“ His wounds have healed you.”( Isaiah 53:5)

The Lord and King has unplugged my ears. I’ve always obeyed him. I haven’t turned away from him.I let my enemies beat me on my bare back. I let them pull the hair out of my beard. I didn’t turn my face away when they made fun of me and spit on me.

He gave himself for us. By doing that, he set us free from all evil. He wanted to make us pure. He wanted us to be his very own people. He wanted us to desire to do what is good.

Christ set us free from the curse of the law. He did it by becoming a curse for us. It is written,“ Everyone who is hung on a pole is under God’s curse.”( Deuteronomy 21:23)

You know the grace shown by our Lord Jesus Christ. Even though he was rich, he became poor to help you. Because he became poor, you can become rich.

When he was treated badly, he was refused a fair trial. Who can say anything about his children? His life was cut off from the earth.”( Isaiah 53:7, 8)

It was the same for Christ. He did not take for himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him,“ You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.”( Psalm 2:7)In another place God said,“ You are a priest forever, just like Melchizedek.”( Psalm 110:4)Jesus prayed while he lived on earth. He made his appeal with sincere cries and tears. He prayed to the God who could save him from death. God answered Jesus because he truly honored God.Jesus was God’s Son. But by suffering he learned what it means to obey.In this way he was made perfect. Eternal salvation comes from him. He saves all those who obey him.

Wisdom teaches you to have respect for the Lord. So don’t be proud if you want to be honored.

Father, bring glory to your name!” Then a voice came from heaven. It said,“ I have brought glory to my name. I will bring glory to it again.”The crowd there heard the voice. Some said it was thunder. Others said an angel had spoken to Jesus.Jesus said,“ This voice was for your benefit, not mine.Now it is time for the world to be judged. Now the prince of this world will be thrown out.And I am going to be lifted up from the earth. When I am, I will bring all people to myself.”

Then you must not leave the body on the pole all night. Make sure you bury it that same day. Everyone who is hung on a pole is under God’s curse. You must not make the land“ unclean.” The Lord your God is giving it to you as your own.

But he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father. They must also learn that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me to do.“ Come now. Let us leave.

Then I said,‘ Here I am. It is written about me in the book. I have come to do what you want, my God.’ ”( Psalm 40:6–8)First Christ said,“ You didn’t want sacrifices and offerings. You didn’t want burnt offerings and sin offerings. You weren’t pleased with them.” He said this even though they were offered in keeping with the law.Then he said,“ Here I am. I have come to do what you want.” He did away with the shadow of the good things that were coming. He did it to put in place the good things themselves.

You didn’t want sacrifices and offerings. You didn’t require burnt offerings and sin offerings. You opened my ears so that I could hear you and obey you.Then I said,“ Here I am. It is written about me in the book.My God, I have come to do what you want. Your law is in my heart.”

If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love. In the same way, I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

Jesus went away a second time. He prayed,“ My Father, is it possible for this cup to be taken away? But if I must drink it, may what you want be done.”

A group of sinful people has closed in on me. They are all around me like a pack of dogs. They have pierced my hands and my feet.

As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed. His clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.

After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him. He led them up a high mountain. They were all alone. There in front of them his appearance was changed.His clothes became so white they shone. They were whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.

Jesus said,“ My food is to do what my Father sent me to do. My food is to finish his work.

There in front of them his appearance was changed. His face shone like the sun. His clothes became as white as the light.
