But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.

This is why I have sent Timothy to you. He is my dearly loved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you about my ways in Christ Jesus, just as I teach everywhere in every church.

I wrote for this purpose: to test your character to see if you are obedient in everything.

We have also sent with them our brother. We have often tested him in many circumstances and found him to be diligent— and now even more diligent because of his great confidence in you.

Paul wanted Timothy to go with him; so he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, since they all knew that his father was a Greek.As they traveled through the towns, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem for the people to observe.So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia; they had been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.When they came to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.Passing by Mysia they went down to Troas.During the night Paul had a vision in which a Macedonian man was standing and pleading with him,“ Cross over to Macedonia and help us!”After he had seen the vision, we immediately made efforts to set out for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, the next day to Neapolis,and from there to Philippi, a Roman colony and a leading city of the district of Macedonia. We stayed in that city for several days.

Therefore, show them proof before the churches of your love and of our boasting about you.

Timothy, my son, I am giving you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies previously made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the good fight,

But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, and endurance,

For I have no one else like-minded who will genuinely care about your interests;

To Titus, my true son in our common faith. Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

I am not saying this as a command. Rather, by means of the diligence of others, I am testing the genuineness of your love.
