但你们知道提摩太的为人，我与他情同父子，一起事奉和传扬福音。

蒂茂德則一片丹忱無懈可擊。彼之事予如父、亦步亦趨、共贊福音之傳揚、爾等所知也。

正因如此，我派了提摩太去你们那里。他在主里忠心耿耿，是我所爱的孩子。他会提醒你们我在基督里如何行事为人，在各地、各教会如何教导人。

为此，我也曾写信给你们，想知道你们是否凡事顺服。

写信给因信主而做我真儿子的提摩太。愿父上帝和我们的主基督耶稣的恩典、怜悯和平安临到你！

我们还要再派一位弟兄和他们一同去你们那里。我们经过多次多方的考验，证实他很热心，而且他因为十分信任你们，现在更热心了。

写信给我亲爱的儿子提摩太。愿父上帝和我们的主基督耶稣的恩典、怜悯和平安临到你！

保罗打算带提摩太去传福音。因为当地的犹太人都知道提摩太的父亲是希腊人，保罗就给提摩太行了割礼。他们走遍各城，把耶路撒冷的使徒和长老所定下的规条教导当地的门徒遵守。这样，众教会在信仰上得到坚固，人数天天都在增加。由于圣灵阻止他们到亚细亚传福音，他们便经过弗吕迦和加拉太地区，来到每西亚的边界，正要进入庇推尼地区，耶稣的灵又加以拦阻。他们就越过每西亚，下到特罗亚。当天晚上，保罗在异象中看见一个马其顿人站在那里恳求他：“请到马其顿来帮助我们！”保罗见了这个异象，确信是上帝呼召我们到马其顿去传福音，就立刻准备动身。我们从特罗亚启航，直接驶往撒摩特喇，第二天抵达尼亚坡里，再从那里来到腓立比。腓立比是马其顿的主要城市，是罗马帝国的殖民地。我们在那里住了几天。

所以，你们要在众教会面前向他们证明你们的爱心，以及我夸耀你们的话并非虚言。

我儿提摩太啊，我依照从前有关你的预言，把这命令托付给你，好使你借此打美好的仗。

但你熟知我的教导、言行、志向、信心、忍耐、爱心、毅力，

因为没有人像他那样跟我一同真正关心你们的事。

提多啊，我写信给你，就我们共同的信仰来说，你是我真正的儿子。愿父上帝和我们的救主基督耶稣赐给你恩典和平安！

我说这话并非命令你们，而是借着别人的热心考验一下你们爱心的真伪。
