for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

God is working in you. He wants your plans and your acts to fulfill his good purpose.

He has saved us and called us to a holy life— not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, (niv)

And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you.Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you. In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him. (niv)

The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord. (niv)

But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy splendor, your young men will come to you like dew from the morning’s womb. (niv)

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (niv)
