But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.When they had brought them to the magistrates, they said,“ These men, being Jews, are agitating our cityand advocate customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans.”The multitude rose up together against them and the magistrates tore their clothes from them, then commanded them to be beaten with rods.When they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely,who, having received such a command, threw them into the inner prison, and secured their feet in the stocks.But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were loosened.The jailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying,“ Don’t harm yourself, for we are all here!”He called for lights, sprang in, fell down trembling before Paul and Silas,brought them out, and said,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”They said,“ Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”They spoke the word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in his house.He took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes, and was immediately baptized, he and all his household.He brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his household, having believed in God.But when it was day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying,“ Let those men go.”The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying,“ The magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore come out and go in peace.”But Paul said to them,“ They have beaten us publicly without a trial, men who are Romans, and have cast us into prison! Do they now release us secretly? No, most certainly, but let them come themselves and bring us out!”The sergeants reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans,and they came and begged them. When they had brought them out, they asked them to depart from the city.They went out of the prison, and entered into Lydia’s house. When they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them, then departed.

I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Could oppression, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?Even as it is written,“ For your sake we are killed all day long. We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin.

Therefore I endure all things for the chosen ones’ sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.This saying is trustworthy:“ For if we died with him, we will also live with him.If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he also will deny us.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.Stand therefore, having the utility belt of truth buckled around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace,above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one.And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints:

But remember the former days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings;partly, being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions; and partly, becoming partakers with those who were treated so.

I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.”

They overcame him because of the Lamb’s blood, and because of the word of their testimony. They didn’t love their life, even to death.

Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.

For, I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last of all, like men sentenced to death. For we are made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and men.We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You have honor, but we have dishonor.Even to this present hour we hunger, thirst, are naked, are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place.We toil, working with our own hands. When people curse us, we bless. Being persecuted, we endure.Being defamed, we entreat. We are made as the filth of the world, the dirt wiped off by all, even until now.I don’t write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.

For you, brothers, became imitators of the assemblies of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus; for you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, even as they did from the Jewswho killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and drove us out, and don’t please God, and are contrary to all men,

Don’t be afraid of the things which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested; and you will have oppression for ten days. Be faithful to death, and I will give you the crown of life.He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. He who overcomes won’t be harmed by the second death.

Why do we also stand in jeopardy every hour?I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.If I fought with animals at Ephesus for human purposes, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, then“ let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s servant in the Good News of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith,that no one would be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task.For most certainly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know.

for which I also labor, striving according to his working, which works in me mightily.For I desire to have you know how greatly I struggle for you, and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
