彼則不本至誠、徒以基督為號召、而自立門戶、藉欲重貽吾憂於囹圄之中。

The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.

But the others preach about Christ only to get ahead. They preach Christ for the wrong reasons. They think they can stir up trouble for me while I am being held by chains.

我为这福音奉派作传道，作使徒，作教师。为这缘故，我也受这些苦难。然而，我不以为耻，因为我知道我所信的是谁，也深信他能保全他所交托我的，直到那日。

凡事不可自私自利，不可贪图虚荣；只要心存谦卑，各人看别人比自己强。

我为你们众人有这样的想法原是应当的，因为你们常在我心里；无论我是在捆锁中，在辩明并证实福音的时候，你们都与我一同蒙恩。

我传福音原没有可夸耀的，因为我是不得已的，若不传福音，我就有祸了。我若甘心做这事，就有赏赐；若不甘心，责任却已经托付给我了。

弟兄们，我不愿意你们不知道，我屡次计划往你们那里去，要在你们中间得些果子，如同在其余的外邦人中一样，只是到如今仍有拦阻。无论是希腊人、未开化的人、聪明人、愚拙人，我都欠他们的债，所以愿意尽我的力量把福音也传给你们在罗马的人。我不以福音为耻；这福音本是上帝的大能，要救一切相信的，先是犹太人，后是希腊人。因为上帝的义正在这福音上显明出来；这义是本于信，以至于信。如经上所记：“义人必因信得生。”

我初次上诉时，没有人前来帮助，竟都离弃了我，但愿这罪不归在他们身上。

“诸位父老弟兄，请听我现在对你们的申辩。”

亚基帕对保罗说：“准你为自己申诉。”于是保罗伸手辩护说：

至于我，我已经被浇献，离世的时候到了。那美好的仗我已经打过了，当跑的路我已经跑尽了，该信的道我已经守住了。

我为此奉派作传道，作使徒，在信仰和真理上作外邦人的教师。我说的是真话，不是说谎。

所以，你们要立定心意，不要预先考虑怎样申辩；

保罗这样申诉时，非斯都大声说：“保罗，你疯了！你的学问太大，反使你疯了！”

相反地，他们看见了主托付我传福音给未受割礼的人，正如主托付彼得传福音给受割礼的人；那感动彼得、叫他为受割礼的人作使徒的，也感动我，叫我为外邦人作使徒。
