For this gospel I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher.Because of this, in fact, I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, because I know the one in whom my faith is set and I am convinced that he is able to protect what has been entrusted to me until that day.

Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself.

For it is right for me to think this about all of you, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel all of you became partners in God’s grace together with me.

For if I preach the gospel, I have no reason for boasting, because I am compelled to do this. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward. But if I do it unwillingly, I am entrusted with a responsibility.

I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I often intended to come to you( and was prevented until now), so that I may have some fruit even among you, just as I already have among the rest of the Gentiles.I am a debtor both to the Greeks and to the barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.Thus I am eager also to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome.For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.For the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel from faith to faith, just as it is written,“ The righteous by faith will live.”

At my first defense no one appeared in my support; instead they all deserted me– may they not be held accountable for it.

“ Brothers and fathers, listen to my defense that I now make to you.”

So Agrippa said to Paul,“ You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul held out his hand and began his defense:

For I am already being poured out as an offering, and the time for me to depart is at hand.I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith!

For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle– I am telling the truth; I am not lying– and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

Therefore be resolved not to rehearse ahead of time how to make your defense.

As Paul was saying these things in his defense, Festus exclaimed loudly,“ You have lost your mind, Paul! Your great learning is driving you insane!”
