They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.A deacon must be faithful to his wife and must manage his children and his household well.Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people,

Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was Jewish and a believer but whose father was a Greek.The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

“ Lord,” Ananias answered,“ I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem.

I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you.

When Timothy comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is carrying on the work of the Lord, just as I am.

It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.

We had previously suffered and been treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in the face of strong opposition.
