Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame; you will be destroyed forever.

You did harmful things to the people of Jacob. They are your relatives. So you will be covered with shame. You will be destroyed forever.

Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off forever.

“ Because of the violence you did to your close relatives in Israel, you will be filled with shame and destroyed forever.

You will be covered with shame and destroyed forever because of violence done to your brother Jacob.

“ Because of violence to your brother Jacob, Shame will cover you, And you will be eliminated forever.

“ For violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall cover you, And you shall be cut off forever.

For the violence done to thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

You will be covered with shame and destroyed forever because of violence done to your brother Jacob.

For[ thy] violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

“ Because you violently slaughtered your relatives, the people of Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be destroyed forever.

Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of Edom, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pity, and his anger raged continually, and he kept his wrath forever;

Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying:“ Your brother Israel says: You know all the travail that has happened to us;how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time. The Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers.When we cried to Yahweh, he heard our voice, sent an angel, and brought us out of Egypt. Behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the edge of your border.“ Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink from the water of the wells. We will go along the king’s highway. We will not turn away to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border.”Edom said to him,“ You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you.”The children of Israel said to him,“ We will go up by the highway; and if we drink your water, I and my livestock, then I will give its price. Only let me, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet.”He said,“ You shall not pass through.” Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand.Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him.

I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.

Remember, Yahweh, against the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem, who said,“ Raze it! Raze it even to its foundation!”

You have shortened the days of his youth. You have covered him with shame. Selah.

Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. Esau said in his heart,“ The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

“ We are confounded, because we have heard reproach. Confusion has covered our faces, for strangers have come into the sanctuaries of Yahweh’s house.”

but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.”Whereas Edom says,“ We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places;” Yahweh of Armies says,“ They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them‘ The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.”

Then my enemy will see it, and shame will cover her who said to me, where is Yahweh your God? Then my enemy will see me and will cover her shame. Now she will be trodden down like the mire of the streets.

For they have conspired together with one mind. They form an alliance against you.The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab, and the Hagrites;Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;Assyria also is joined with them. They have helped the children of Lot. Selah.Do to them as you did to Midian, as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon;

Let my adversaries be clothed with dishonor. Let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

Because for your sake, I have borne reproach. Shame has covered my face.

I will clothe his enemies with shame, but on himself, his crown will shine.”

For I have sworn by myself,” says Yahweh,“ that Bozrah will become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse. All its cities will be perpetual wastes.”

You will know that I, Yahweh, have heard all your insults which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying,‘ They have been laid desolate. They have been given us to devour.’You have magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and have multiplied your words against me. I have heard it.”The Lord Yahweh says:“ When the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate.As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it was desolate, so I will do to you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.’”

Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against Yahweh our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day. We have not obeyed Yahweh our God’s voice.”

Rejoice and be glad, daughter of Edom, that dwells in the land of Uz. The cup will pass through to you also. You will be drunken, and will make yourself naked.

“‘“ Because you have had a perpetual hostility, and have given over the children of Israel to the power of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time of the iniquity of the end;therefore, as I live,” says the Lord Yahweh,“ I will prepare you for blood, and blood will pursue you. Since you have not hated blood, therefore blood will pursue you.Thus I will make Mount Seir an astonishment and a desolation. I will cut off from it him who passes through and him who returns.

They will also clothe themselves with sackcloth, and horror will cover them. Shame will be on all faces, and baldness on all their heads.

“ Edom will become an astonishment. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished, and will hiss at all its plagues.As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor cities,” says Yahweh,“ no man will dwell there, neither will any son of man live therein.“ Behold, he will come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoever is chosen, I will appoint him over it. For who is like me? Who will appoint me a time? Who is the shepherd who will stand before me?”Therefore hear the counsel of Yahweh, that he has taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they will drag them away, the little ones of the flock. Surely he will make their habitation desolate over them.

Egypt will be a desolation, and Edom will be a desolate wilderness, for the violence done to the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

“‘ The Lord Yahweh says:“ Because Edom has dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and taken revenge on them;”therefore the Lord Yahweh says,“ I will stretch out my hand on Edom, and will cut off man and animal from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman. They will fall by the sword even to Dedan.I will lay my vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel. They will do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath. Then they will know my vengeance,” says the Lord Yahweh.

Jacob said to Rebekah his mother,“ Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.
