“‘ If anyone dies very suddenly beside him and he defiles his consecrated head, then he must shave his head on the day of his purification– on the seventh day he must shave it.

When the seventh day comes he must shave all his hair– his head, his beard, his eyebrows, all his hair– and he must wash his clothes, bathe his body in water, and so be clean.

Paul, after staying many more days in Corinth, said farewell to the brothers and sailed away to Syria accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. He had his hair cut off at Cenchrea because he had made a vow.

More than that, I now regard all things as liabilities compared to the far greater value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things– indeed, I regard them as dung!– that I may gain Christ,and be found in him, not because I have my own righteousness derived from the law, but because I have the righteousness that comes by way of Christ’s faithfulness– a righteousness from God that is in fact based on Christ’s faithfulness.

So do what we tell you: We have four men who have taken a vow;take them and purify yourself along with them and pay their expenses, so that they may have their heads shaved. Then everyone will know there is nothing in what they have been told about you, but that you yourself live in conformity with the law.
