「你們卻把酒給拿細耳人喝，囑咐先知說：『不要說預言。』

不要醉酒，酒能使人放蕩；要被聖靈充滿。

為了你的胃，又常患病，不要只喝水，要稍微喝點酒。

各樣惡事要禁戒。

利慕伊勒啊，君王不宜，君王不宜喝酒，王子尋找烈酒也不相宜；恐怕喝了就忘記所頒的法令，顛倒所有困苦人的是非。

他們卻說：「我們不喝酒，因為我們祖先利甲的兒子約拿達曾吩咐我們說：『你們與你們的子孫永不可喝酒，不可蓋房子，不可撒種，也不可栽葡萄園，連擁有都不可；但一生的年日要住帳棚，使你們的日子在寄居的地面上得以長久。』凡我們祖先利甲的兒子約拿達所吩咐我們的話，我們都聽從了。我們和我們的妻子兒女一生的年日都不喝酒，

「你們要謹慎，免得被貪食、醉酒和今生的憂慮壓住你們的心，那日子就忽然臨到你們，

施洗的約翰來，不吃餅，不喝酒，你們說他是被鬼附的。人子來，也吃也喝，你們又說這人貪食好酒，是稅吏和罪人的朋友。
