“ Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone may flee. In addition, give them forty-two other towns.

“ Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities to go to for safety. A person who has killed someone can run to one of them. Also give the Levites 42 other towns.

“ The cities that you give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, where you shall permit the manslayer to flee, and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities.

“ Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, where a person who has accidentally killed someone can flee for safety. In addition, give them forty two other towns.

“ The cities you give the Levites will include six cities of refuge, which you will provide so that the one who kills someone may flee there; in addition to these, give forty-two other cities.

The cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall provide for the one who commits manslaughter to flee to; and in addition to them you shall give forty two cities.

“ Now among the cities which you will give to the Levites you shall appoint six cities of refuge, to which a manslayer may flee. And to these you shall add forty-two cities.

And the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give for the manslayer to flee unto: and besides them ye shall give forty and two cities.

And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites[ there shall be] six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

Now from these towns that you will give to the Levites you must select six towns of refuge to which a person who has killed someone may flee. And you must give them forty-two other towns.

以色列人便按照耶和華的吩咐，從他們的產業中把以下的城邑及城郊分給了利未人。

以色列人把避難城希伯崙分給祭司亞倫的子孫，並把立拿、

迦得支派的瑪哈念、基列的避難城拉末、

呂便支派的比悉、雅雜、

以色列人分給利未支派中革順子孫的城邑有：瑪拿西半個支派中巴珊的哥蘭避難城和比·施提拉及其草場，共兩座城；

以法蓮山區的避難城示劍，基色、

拿弗他利支派的哈末·多珥、加珥坦和加利利的避難城基低斯三座城及其草場。

耶和華是受欺壓之人的避難所，是他們患難之時的避風港。

是白日避暑的亭子，是躲避狂風暴雨的避難所和藏身處。

「所有勞苦困乏、背負重擔的人啊，到我這裡來吧！我要賜給你們安息。

上帝是我的拯救者，是我的榮耀，祂是我的堅固磐石，是我的避難所。眾百姓啊，要時刻信靠上帝，向祂傾心吐意，因為祂是我們的避難所。（細拉）

你們要選六座城作為避難城，三座在約旦河東岸，三座在迦南。

「你吩咐以色列人，照我以前藉摩西所吩咐你們的，設立一些城邑作為避難城，好讓那些誤殺了人的可以逃到那裡，免遭仇人追殺。逃進城的人要先站在城門口，向避難城的長老陳明事情的經過，長老就把他們收容到城裡，給他們地方住。如果他們的仇人追到，長老們不可把他們交出來，因為他們是無意殺的，跟被殺者無冤無仇。這些人要住在城內，直到在會眾面前受了審訊，並且還要等到在任的大祭司死後，才可離城回鄉。」於是，民眾便設立拿弗他利山區加利利境內的基低斯、以法蓮山區的示劍和猶大山區的基列·亞巴，即希伯崙作為避難城。他們又在約旦河、耶利哥東面空曠的平原上設立呂便支派的比悉，迦得支派基列境內的拉末和瑪拿西支派巴珊境內的哥蘭作為避難城。這是為以色列人和那些從外地來寄居的人所設立的避難城，誤殺了人的可以逃到那裡，不致未在會眾面前受審便死在報仇的人手裡。

那時，摩西在約旦河東劃出三座城作避難城，供素無冤仇卻誤殺他人者逃往避難。三座城分別是曠野高原的比悉——供呂便人避難，基列的拉末——供迦得人避難，巴珊的哥蘭——供瑪拿西人避難。

上帝絕不說謊，祂將永不改變的應許和誓言給了我們，使我們這些尋找避難所、持定擺在前面之盼望的人可以大得鼓勵。

看看我左右，無人關心我；我走投無路，無人眷顧我。耶和華啊，我向你呼求，你是我的避難所，在世上你是我的福分。
