“ Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone may flee. In addition, give them forty-two other towns.

“ Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities to go to for safety. A person who has killed someone can run to one of them. Also give the Levites 42 other towns.

“ The cities that you give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, where you shall permit the manslayer to flee, and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities.

“ Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, where a person who has accidentally killed someone can flee for safety. In addition, give them forty two other towns.

“ The cities you give the Levites will include six cities of refuge, which you will provide so that the one who kills someone may flee there; in addition to these, give forty-two other cities.

The cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall provide for the one who commits manslaughter to flee to; and in addition to them you shall give forty two cities.

“ Now among the cities which you will give to the Levites you shall appoint six cities of refuge, to which a manslayer may flee. And to these you shall add forty-two cities.

And the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give for the manslayer to flee unto: and besides them ye shall give forty and two cities.

And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites[ there shall be] six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

Now from these towns that you will give to the Levites you must select six towns of refuge to which a person who has killed someone may flee. And you must give them forty-two other towns.

以色列人便按照耶和华的吩咐，从他们的产业中把以下的城邑及城郊分给了利未人。

以色列人把避难城希伯仑分给祭司亚伦的子孙，并把立拿、

迦得支派的玛哈念、基列的避难城拉末、

吕便支派的比悉、雅杂、

以色列人分给利未支派中革顺子孙的城邑有：玛拿西半个支派中巴珊的哥兰避难城和比·施提拉及其草场，共两座城；

以法莲山区的避难城示剑，基色、

拿弗他利支派的哈末·多珥、加珥坦和加利利的避难城基低斯三座城及其草场。

耶和华是受欺压之人的避难所，是他们患难之时的避风港。

是白日避暑的亭子，是躲避狂风暴雨的避难所和藏身处。

“所有劳苦困乏、背负重担的人啊，到我这里来吧！我要赐给你们安息。

上帝是我的拯救者，是我的荣耀，祂是我的坚固磐石，是我的避难所。众百姓啊，要时刻信靠上帝，向祂倾心吐意，因为祂是我们的避难所。（细拉）

你们要选六座城作为避难城，三座在约旦河东岸，三座在迦南。

“你吩咐以色列人，照我以前借摩西所吩咐你们的，设立一些城邑作为避难城，好让那些误杀了人的可以逃到那里，免遭仇人追杀。逃进城的人要先站在城门口，向避难城的长老陈明事情的经过，长老就把他们收容到城里，给他们地方住。如果他们的仇人追到，长老们不可把他们交出来，因为他们是无意杀的，跟被杀者无冤无仇。这些人要住在城内，直到在会众面前受了审讯，并且还要等到在任的大祭司死后，才可离城回乡。”于是，民众便设立拿弗他利山区加利利境内的基低斯、以法莲山区的示剑和犹大山区的基列·亚巴，即希伯仑作为避难城。他们又在约旦河、耶利哥东面空旷的平原上设立吕便支派的比悉，迦得支派基列境内的拉末和玛拿西支派巴珊境内的哥兰作为避难城。这是为以色列人和那些从外地来寄居的人所设立的避难城，误杀了人的可以逃到那里，不致未在会众面前受审便死在报仇的人手里。

那时，摩西在约旦河东划出三座城作避难城，供素无冤仇却误杀他人者逃往避难。三座城分别是旷野高原的比悉——供吕便人避难，基列的拉末——供迦得人避难，巴珊的哥兰——供玛拿西人避难。

上帝绝不说谎，祂将永不改变的应许和誓言给了我们，使我们这些寻找避难所、持定摆在前面之盼望的人可以大得鼓励。

看看我左右，无人关心我；我走投无路，无人眷顾我。耶和华啊，我向你呼求，你是我的避难所，在世上你是我的福分。
