你不可跪拜他们的神像，也不可事奉它们，不可作他们所作的，不可模仿他们的行为，却要把神像完全拆毁，打碎他们的柱像。

“你们不可为自己做偶像，不可为自己立雕像或神柱，也不可在你们的境内安置石像，向它跪拜；因为我是耶和华你们的神。

耶和华你的神把他们交给你，你打败了他们的时候，你要完全毁灭他们，不可与他们立约，也不可恩待他们。不可与他们通婚，不可把你的女儿嫁给他们的儿子，也不可为你的儿子娶他们的女儿。因为他必使你的儿子离开我，去事奉别的神，以致耶和华向你们发烈怒，就快快地把你们消灭。你们却要这样待他们：拆毁他们的祭坛，打碎他们的神柱，砍下他们的亚舍拉，用火焚烧他们的雕像。

只是在耶和华你的神赐给你作产业的这些国民的城市里，凡有气息的，连一个你也不可让他活着；只要照着耶和华你的神吩咐你的，把赫人、亚摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人，完全灭绝；免得他们教导你们学习一切可憎的事，就是他们对自己的神所行的事，以致你们得罪耶和华你们的神。

我要限定你的境界，从红海直到非利士海，从旷野直到大河。我要把那地的居民交在你手中，你要把他们从你面前驱逐出去。不可与他们和他们的神立约。不可让他们住在你的境内，恐怕他们使你得罪我；如果你事奉他们的神，这必成为你的网罗。”

你们不可与这地的居民立约，要拆毁他们的祭坛。’你们竟没有听从我的话；你们作的是什么呢？

他们没有照着耶和华吩咐他们的，灭绝外族的人民，反而和外族人混居杂处，学习他们的风俗习惯。他们又事奉外族人的偶像，这就成了他们的网罗。

你们要把你们赶走的列国的人事奉神的地方，无论是在高山上，在山冈上，或是在各青翠树下，都要完全毁坏；也要拆毁他们的祭坛，打碎他们的神柱；用火焚烧他们的亚舍拉，砍倒他们的神的雕像，并且把他们的名字从这地方除灭。

你要小心，不可与你所去的那地的居民立约，恐怕这事在你中间成为陷阱。他们的祭坛你们却要拆毁，他们的柱像你们要打碎，他们的亚舍拉你们要砍下。你不可敬拜别的神，因为耶和华是忌邪的神，他名为忌邪者。恐怕你与那地的居民立约，他们随从自己的神行邪淫，给自己的神献祭的时候，有人叫你，你就吃他的祭物；又恐怕你给你的儿子娶他们的女儿为妻，他们的女儿随从自己的神行邪淫的时候，使你的儿子也随从她们的神行邪淫。你不可为自己铸造神像。

他们的神像，你们要用火焚烧；神像上的金银，你不可贪爱，也不可据为己有，免得你因此陷入网罗；因为这是耶和华你的神厌恶的。可厌恶的物，你不可带进家里去，免得你与那物一样成了当毁灭的；你要非常憎恨它，十分厌恶它，因为这是当毁灭的物。”

使你们不与你们中间剩下的这些国家的人来往；他们的神的名字，你们不可提，不可指着他们起誓，不可事奉他们，也不可敬拜他们；

那时，你要自己谨慎，不可在他们从你的面前被消灭以后，随从他们的恶俗而陷入网罗，也不可求问他们的神，说：‘这些国的人怎样事奉他们的神，我也要这样行。’你不可向耶和华你的神这样行，因为耶和华恨恶的一切可厌恶的事，他们都向他们的神行了，甚至把自己的儿女用火焚烧，献给他们的神。

以色列人用刀击杀了城中所有的人，把他们完全毁灭；有气息的一个也没有留下；约书亚又放火烧了夏琐。约书亚夺取了那些王的一切城镇，又擒获那些城镇所有的王；他用刀击杀了他们，把一切完全毁灭，正如耶和华仆人摩西所吩咐的。
