不可叩拜他们的神明，不可供奉它们，也不可效法他们的行为，要彻底拆毁神像，打碎他们的神柱。

“你们不可为自己制造偶像，不可竖立神像和神柱，也不可在你们境内安放祭拜用的石像。我是你们的上帝耶和华。

当你们的上帝耶和华把他们交在你们手里、使你们打败他们后，你们必须彻底毁灭他们。不可与他们立约，不可怜悯他们。不可与他们通婚，不可让你们的儿女与他们的儿女通婚，因为他们会让你们的儿女离弃耶和华去拜其他神明，以致耶和华向你们发怒，迅速毁灭你们。你们要拆毁他们的祭坛，打碎他们的神柱，砍下他们的亚舍拉神像，焚烧他们的偶像。

你们的上帝耶和华将把你们附近各族的城邑赐给你们，你们要将里面有气息的全部消灭。要遵照你们的上帝耶和华的吩咐，彻底灭绝赫人、亚摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人，免得他们将祭拜自己神明的可憎习俗传给你们，以致你们得罪你们的上帝耶和华。

我给你定下国界，从红海到非利士海岸，从旷野到幼发拉底河。我要把其中所有的人都交在你手中，你要把他们全部赶出去。不可跟这些民族及其神明立约，也不可让这些民族住在你的土地上，免得他们使你得罪我，你若供奉他们的神明，必因此而陷入网罗。”

你们不可跟这里的居民立约，要毁掉他们的祭坛。’可是你们为什么不听呢？

他们没有照耶和华的命令消灭外族人，反倒与他们混居，仿效他们的习俗，拜他们的神像，陷入网罗。

“你们赶走那里的列邦后，要彻底摧毁他们在高山上、丘陵上、绿树下供奉其神明的地方。你们要拆毁他们的祭坛，打碎他们的神柱，焚烧他们的亚舍拉神像，砍倒他们的偶像，使它们的名字从那里消失。

你要谨慎，到了目的地后，不可与当地的居民立约，免得因此而陷入网罗。相反，要拆掉他们的祭坛，打碎他们的神柱，砍掉他们的亚舍拉神像。不可拜别的神明，因为耶和华是痛恨不贞的上帝，祂名为‘痛恨不贞’。“不可与当地的居民立约，免得他们与自己的神明苟合时邀请你，你就吃他们的祭物，给儿子娶他们的女儿为妻，以致她们与自己的神明苟合时诱使你的儿子犯同样的罪。“不可为自己铸造神像。

你们要烧毁他们的神像，不可贪图神像上的金银，不可将那些金银据为己有，免得你们因此陷入网罗；因为那是你们的上帝耶和华所憎恶的。不可把可憎之物带到家里，否则你们会像它们一样被毁灭。你们要极其憎恶、厌弃它们，因为它们是当毁灭之物。

不可与你们中间剩下的异族混杂，不可提他们的神明或凭它们起誓，不可供奉、祭拜他们的神明。

那时，你们要谨慎，不可受诱惑去效法他们的习俗，不可打听他们神明的事，说，‘这些民族怎样供奉他们的神明呢？我也要效法。’你们不可按照他们的方式敬拜你们的上帝耶和华。他们祭拜自己神明的种种行为令耶和华憎恶，他们甚至焚烧自己的儿女献给他们的神明。

以色列人杀了城内的人，一个没留。约书亚放火烧了夏琐。约书亚攻占了诸王所有的城池，擒获诸王。他照耶和华的仆人摩西的吩咐，将诸王全部杀死，毁掉城池。
