羅得舉目，看見整個約旦河平原直到瑣珥都是水源充足之地；在耶和華毀掉所多瑪、格摩拉之前，那地好像耶和華的園子，又像埃及地。於是羅得為自己選擇了整個約旦河平原；羅得向東出發，他們就彼此分開了。亞伯蘭住在迦南地，而羅得住在平原的城鎮中，漸漸遷移帳篷，直到所多瑪。
