因為他們用詭計擾害你們；在毗珥的事上，和他們的姊妹，米甸領袖的女兒哥斯比的事上，用詭計欺騙了你們。”這哥斯比在瘟疫的日子，因毗珥的事被殺了。

他們有禍了，因為他們走上了該隱的道路，又為了財利闖進巴蘭的歧途，並且在可拉的背叛中滅亡了。

但那些想要發財的人，就落在試探中和陷阱裡；又落在許多無知而有害的私慾裡，使人沉淪在敗壞和滅亡中；因為貪財是萬惡之根。有人貪愛錢財，就被引誘離開真道，用許多痛苦把自己刺透了。

他們離棄正路，走入歧途，跟從了比珥的兒子巴蘭的道路。這巴蘭貪愛不義的工價，

然而有幾件事我要責備你，因為在你那裡有些人持守巴蘭的教訓。這巴蘭曾經教導巴勒把絆腳石放在以色列人面前，叫他們吃祭過偶像的食物，並且行淫亂。

於是巴蘭起來，回自己的地方去；巴勒也回去了。

惡人驕橫地追逼困苦人，願惡人陷入自己所設的陰謀中。

耶和華已經把自己顯明，又施行了審判；惡人被自己手所作的纏住了。（希迦庸、細拉）

摩押人對米甸的長老說：“現在這群人要吞併我們四周的一切，好像牛吞吃田間的草一樣。”那時西撥的兒子巴勒，作摩押王；
