他們卻擅自上到山頂。但耶和華的約櫃和摩西都沒有離開營地。

亞倫子孫作祭司的要吹這號筒，作為你們世世代代永遠的定例。當你們在自己的土地上，與欺壓你們的敵人打仗時，要用號筒吹出大聲。你們就在耶和華－你們的上帝面前得蒙記念，也必蒙拯救脫離仇敵。

你們要按照我指示你的，帳幕和其中一切器具的樣式，照樣去做。」

大衛知道掃羅設計陷害他，就對亞比亞他祭司說：「把以弗得拿過來。」

看哪，率領我們的是上帝，又有他的祭司拿號向你們吹出響聲。以色列人哪，不要與耶和華－你們列祖的上帝爭戰，因你們必不能得勝。」耶羅波安卻在猶大人的後頭設伏兵。這樣，以色列人在猶大人的前頭，伏兵在猶大人的後頭。猶大人轉過來，看哪，前後都有戰事，就呼求耶和華，祭司也吹號。於是猶大人吶喊。猶大人吶喊的時候，上帝就擊打耶羅波安和以色列眾人，使他們敗在亞比雅與猶大人面前。

從臨門‧帕烈起行，安營在立拿。從立拿起行，安營在勒撒。從勒撒起行，安營在基希拉他。

烏利亞對大衛說：「約櫃，以色列和猶大都留在棚裏，我主約押和我主的僕人都在田野安營，我豈可回家吃喝，與妻子同房呢？我指着王和王的性命起誓：『我絕不做這事！』」

報信的回答說：「以色列人在非利士人面前逃跑，百姓中被殺的很多！你的兩個兒子何弗尼和非尼哈也都死了，並且上帝的約櫃已經被擄去了。」

於是百姓派人到示羅，從那裏將坐在二基路伯上萬軍之耶和華的約櫃抬來。以利的兩個兒子何弗尼、非尼哈也與上帝的約櫃同來。耶和華的約櫃到了營中，全以色列就大聲歡呼，連地都震動。

七個祭司要拿七個羊角走在約櫃前。到了第七日，你們要圍繞這城七次，祭司也要吹角。羊角聲拖長的時候，你們一聽見角聲，眾百姓要大聲呼喊，城牆就必倒塌，各人要往前直上。」嫩的兒子約書亞召了祭司來，對他們說：「你們抬起約櫃來，要有七個祭司拿七個羊角在耶和華的約櫃前。」

七個祭司拿七個羊角，走在耶和華的約櫃前，他們吹着角；帶兵器的走在他們前面，後隊跟着耶和華的約櫃走，號角繼續在吹。第二日，他們再把城圍繞一次，就回營裏去。六日都是這樣做。第七日清早黎明時，他們起來，以同樣的方式圍繞城七次；惟獨這一日他們圍繞城七次。

那時上帝的約櫃在以色列人那裏。掃羅對亞希亞說：「你把上帝的約櫃請到這裏來。」

亞倫祭司的孫子，以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，就從會眾中起來，手裏拿着槍，跟這以色列人進入帳棚，刺穿了二人，就是以色列人和那女子的肚腹。這樣，以色列人遭受的瘟疫就停止了。遭瘟疫死的，有二萬四千人。耶和華吩咐摩西說：「亞倫祭司的孫子，以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈，使我的憤怒轉離以色列人，因為在他們中間，他以我的妒忌為他的妒忌，使我不在妒忌中毀滅以色列人。因此，你要說：『看哪，我將我平安的約賜給他。這是他和他的後裔永遠當祭司職任的約，因他為了上帝而妒忌，他為以色列人贖罪。』」
