亚伦子孙作祭司的要吹这号筒，作为你们世世代代永远的定例。当你们在自己的土地上，与欺压你们的敌人打仗时，要用号筒吹出大声。你们就在耶和华—你们的上帝面前得蒙记念，也必蒙拯救脱离仇敌。

你们要按照我指示你的，帐幕和其中一切器具的样式，照样去做。”

大卫知道扫罗设计陷害他，就对亚比亚他祭司说：“把以弗得拿过来。”

看哪，率领我们的是上帝，又有他的祭司拿号向你们吹出响声。以色列人哪，不要与耶和华—你们列祖的上帝争战，因你们必不能得胜。”耶罗波安却在犹大人的后头设伏兵。这样，以色列人在犹大人的前头，伏兵在犹大人的后头。犹大人转过来，看哪，前后都有战事，就呼求耶和华，祭司也吹号。于是犹大人呐喊。犹大人呐喊的时候，上帝就击打耶罗波安和以色列众人，使他们败在亚比雅与犹大人面前。

从临门‧帕烈起行，安营在立拿。从立拿起行，安营在勒撒。从勒撒起行，安营在基希拉他。

乌利亚对大卫说：“约柜，以色列和犹大都留在棚里，我主约押和我主的仆人都在田野安营，我岂可回家吃喝，与妻子同房呢？我指着王和王的性命起誓：‘我绝不做这事！’”

报信的回答说：“以色列人在非利士人面前逃跑，百姓中被杀的很多！你的两个儿子何弗尼和非尼哈也都死了，并且上帝的约柜已经被掳去了。”

于是百姓派人到示罗，从那里将坐在二基路伯上万军之耶和华的约柜抬来。以利的两个儿子何弗尼、非尼哈也与上帝的约柜同来。耶和华的约柜到了营中，全以色列就大声欢呼，连地都震动。

七个祭司要拿七个羊角走在约柜前。到了第七日，你们要围绕这城七次，祭司也要吹角。羊角声拖长的时候，你们一听见角声，众百姓要大声呼喊，城墙就必倒塌，各人要往前直上。”嫩的儿子约书亚召了祭司来，对他们说：“你们抬起约柜来，要有七个祭司拿七个羊角在耶和华的约柜前。”

七个祭司拿七个羊角，走在耶和华的约柜前，他们吹着角；带兵器的走在他们前面，后队跟着耶和华的约柜走，号角继续在吹。第二日，他们再把城围绕一次，就回营里去。六日都是这样做。第七日清早黎明时，他们起来，以同样的方式围绕城七次；惟独这一日他们围绕城七次。

那时上帝的约柜在以色列人那里。扫罗对亚希亚说：“你把上帝的约柜请到这里来。”

亚伦祭司的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈看见了，就从会众中起来，手里拿着枪，跟这以色列人进入帐棚，刺穿了二人，就是以色列人和那女子的肚腹。这样，以色列人遭受的瘟疫就停止了。遭瘟疫死的，有二万四千人。耶和华吩咐摩西说：“亚伦祭司的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈，使我的愤怒转离以色列人，因为在他们中间，他以我的妒忌为他的妒忌，使我不在妒忌中毁灭以色列人。因此，你要说：‘看哪，我将我平安的约赐给他。这是他和他的后裔永远当祭司职任的约，因他为了上帝而妒忌，他为以色列人赎罪。’”
