大衛知道掃羅設毒計要害他，就對祭司亞比亞他說：『將神諭像拿近前來。』

你看，是上帝在頭裏率領我們，和我們同在，他的祭司也拿着號筒大聲吹來攻擊你們。以色列人哪，不要同永恆主你們列祖的上帝交戰哦；因為你們是絕不能成功的。』耶羅波安卻使伏兵從猶大人後頭而來；這樣，以色列人竟在猶大人前面，而伏兵又在猶大人後頭。猶大人一轉臉，見前後都得交戰，就向永恆主哀叫，祭司們也吹號筒。於是猶大人吶喊；猶大人吶喊的時候，上帝就把耶羅波安和以色列眾人擊敗在亞比雅和猶大人面前了。

從臨門帕烈往前行，就在立拿紮營。從立拿往前行，就在勒撒紮營。從勒撒往前行，就在基希拉他紮營。

烏利亞對大衛說：『上帝的櫃和以色列兵猶大兵都住在草棚裏；我主約押和我主上的僕人都在野外紮營；而我、我回家去喫喝、去和妻子同寢麼？我指着永活的永恆主、也指着你的性命來起誓，我決不這樣行。』

那傳消息的回答說：『以色列人在非利士人面前逃跑；人民中間大被擊殺；你的兩個兒子何弗尼非尼哈也死了；上帝的櫃被拿去了。』

於是人民打發了人到示羅，從那裏將坐在兩個基路伯上的萬軍之永恆主的約櫃抬來；以利的兩個兒子何弗尼非尼哈跟上帝的約櫃一同來。永恆主的約櫃到了營中，以色列眾人就大聲歡呼，地都發了回聲。

七個祭司要背着七個羊號角在約櫃前面；第七天你們要繞城七次，祭司們要吹號角。當羊角聲拉長、你們聽見號角聲的時候，眾民要大聲吶喊，城牆就會當場陷落；眾民都要上去，各人往前直上。』於是嫩的兒子約書亞把祭司們叫了來，對他們說：『你們抬起約櫃；要有七個祭司背着七個羊號角在永恆主的櫃前面。』

那背着七個羊號角的七個祭司在永恆主的櫃前面繼續地走，吹着號角；武裝的人在他們前面走，後隊在永恆主的櫃後面跟着走；祭司一面走，一面吹號角。第二天眾人繞城一次，就回到營中；他們這樣行了六天。第七天、天快亮的時候、他們清早起來，照這樣繞了城七次；只有這一天才繞城七次。

掃羅對亞希亞說：『將神諭像送來』；因為那一天是他在以色列人面前帶着神諭像。

祭司亞倫的孫子以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，就從會眾中起來，手裏拿着槍，跟着那以色列人進圓拱帳幕，把他們兩個人刺死，就是刺死那以色列人和那女人，槍由肚子裏透過去。這樣、疫症就從以色列人中制住了。那時因疫症而死的、有二萬四千人。永恆主告訴摩西說：『祭司亞倫的孫子以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈使我向以色列人所發的烈怒轉消，因他在他們中間以妒愛熱情愛我，使我因妒愛熱情不把以色列人滅盡。故此你要說：「看哪，我將我和平之約給他，要做他和他以後的苗裔永遠擔當祭司職任的約，因為他對他的上帝有妒愛熱情，並且為以色列人除罪。」』
