Moses gave the tribute to Eleazar the priest as the Lord’s part, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Elders who provide effective leadership must be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard in speaking and teaching.

You are to take it from their half-share and give it to Eleazar the priest for a raised offering to the LORD.From the Israelites’ half-share you are to take one portion out of fifty of the people, the cattle, the donkeys, and the sheep– from every kind of animal– and you are to give them to the Levites, who are responsible for the care of the LORD’s tabernacle.”So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.

Or is he not surely speaking for our benefit? It was written for us, because the one plowing and threshing ought to work in hope of enjoying the harvest.If we sowed spiritual blessings among you, is it too much to reap material things from you?If others receive this right from you, are we not more deserving? But we have not made use of this right. Instead we endure everything so that we may not be a hindrance to the gospel of Christ.Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple eat food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar receive a part of the offerings?In the same way the Lord commanded those who proclaim the gospel to receive their living by the gospel.

no bag for the journey, or an extra tunic, or sandals or staff, for the worker deserves his provisions.

And it could be said that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid a tithe through Abraham.For he was still in his ancestor Abraham’s loins when Melchizedek met him.So if perfection had in fact been possible through the Levitical priesthood– for on that basis the people received the law– what further need would there have been for another priest to arise, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not in Aaron’s order?For when the priesthood changes, a change in the law must come as well.

But see how great he must be, if Abraham the patriarch gave him a tithe of his plunder.And those of the sons of Levi who receive the priestly office have authorization according to the law to collect a tithe from the people, that is, from their fellow countrymen, although they too are descendants of Abraham.But Melchizedek who does not share their ancestry collected a tithe from Abraham and blessed the one who possessed the promise.

Now the one who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with the one who teaches it.

Every offering of all the Israelites’ holy things that they bring to the priest will be his.
