摩西告民曰、汝必備戰、攻擊米田人、使耶和華怨米田人之憤可洩。

摩西諭民曰、當於爾中選人、執器械出徵、攻米甸人、為主徵伐米甸人、

So Moses said to the people,“ Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites so that they may carry out the Lord’s vengeance on them.

So Moses said to the people,“ Choose some men, and arm them to fight the Lord’s war of revenge against Midian.

And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall execute vengeance for the covenant. And if you gather within your cities, I will send pestilence among you, and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

And the Lord said to Jehu,“ Because you have done well in carrying out what is right in my eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, your sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.”

So Moses said to Joshua,“ Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed.But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword.

“ Curse Meroz, says the angel of the Lord, curse its inhabitants thoroughly, because they did not come to the help of the Lord, to the help of the Lord against the mighty.

And you shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, so that I may avenge on Jezebel the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord.

That day is the day of the Lord God of hosts, a day of vengeance, to avenge himself on his foes. The sword shall devour and be sated and drink its fill of their blood. For the Lord God of hosts holds a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

“ That the leaders took the lead in Israel, that the people offered themselves willingly, bless the Lord!

“ Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the people of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the people of Israel in my jealousy.

and it shall be to him and to his descendants after him the covenant of a perpetual priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the people of Israel.’”

saying,“ A hand upon the throne of the Lord! The Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

“ A voice! They flee and escape from the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, vengeance for his temple.
