“ They were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice and enticed the Israelites to be unfaithful to the Lord in the Peor incident, so that a plague struck the Lord’s people.

“ The women followed Balaam’s advice. They caused the Israelites to be unfaithful to the Lord. The people worshiped the god named Baal that was worshiped at Peor. So a plague struck them.

以色列人住在什亭，人民与摩押的女子行起淫乱来。那些女子叫以色列人来，一同给她们的神献祭，以色列人也吃了她们的祭物，跪拜她们的神。以色列人与巴力．毗珥连合，耶和华就向以色列人发怒。耶和华对摩西说：“把人民的首领都捉来，在我耶和华面前对着太阳把他们悬挂起来，好使耶和华的烈怒可以转消，不向以色列人发作。”于是摩西对以色列的审判官说：“你们各人要把与巴力．毗珥连合的人都杀了。”摩西和以色列全体会众在会幕门口哭泣的时候，以色列人中有一个人来，当着他们的面带了一个米甸女子到自己的兄弟那里去。亚伦祭司的孙子、以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈看见了，就从会众中起来，手里拿着枪，跟着那以色列人，进入卧室，把他们两人刺透，就是刺透那以色列人和那女子。枪刺进了那女子的肚腹。这样，在以色列人中的瘟疫才止住。那时因瘟疫而死的，共有二万四千人。

他们离弃正路，走入歧途，跟从了比珥的儿子巴兰的道路。这巴兰贪爱不义的工价，

然而有几件事我要责备你，因为在你那里有些人持守巴兰的教训。这巴兰曾经教导巴勒把绊脚石放在以色列人面前，叫他们吃祭过偶像的食物，并且行淫乱。

耶和华因巴力．毗珥的事所行的，你们都亲眼看见了；所有跟随巴力．毗珥的人，耶和华你们的神都从你们中间消灭了。

从前拜毗珥的罪孽，我们还以为是小事吗？虽然有灾疫临到耶和华的会众，直到今日我们还没有洗净这罪呢。

现在我要回我本族去了；你来，我要告诉你这个民族日后要怎样待你的人民。”

因为他们用诡计扰害你们；在毗珥的事上，和他们的姊妹，米甸领袖的女儿哥斯比的事上，用诡计欺骗了你们。”这哥斯比在瘟疫的日子，因毗珥的事被杀了。

因为妓女是深坑，淫妇是狭窄的井。

我发现一个比死亡更恶毒的妇人，她有如罗网，心如陷阱，手如锁链。蒙神喜悦的人得以摆脱她，罪人却被她缠住。
